Michigan Trap Game

It's fun to look at the rankings and projections and to indulge in speculations but the most important thing is to be 1-0 against Michigan. We know the maize and blue have talent and I'm sure they will relish playing the role of spoiler. It sounds weird to say but in 2024 Michigan is a trap game. Michigan's lackluster 5-4 record, IU breaching the Top 12 nationally and thus being in the CFP picture, the looming showdown with Ohio State. Everybody's patting our guys on the back and telling them how great they are. There's no need to do anything differently, trust in the process that got you here, but stay focused on what's in front of you and deal with next week when it gets here. How many times in sports do we see teams drop the ball in situations like this? Danger Will Robinson! Rat poison alert.

Sam Harris on Why He's Endorsing Kamala Harris

This is, of course, sensible and well thought out. I like Sam Harris a lot and whenever I see him in interviews or listen to his podcast, I often find myself agreeing with what he's saying. And his point about where he believes Harris stands on immigration, defunding the police, funding gender reassignment surgeries for imprisoned inmates and COVID conspiracies is spot on, IMO. All those things are boogeymen/strawmen arguments that no one actually takes seriously, save for people buying into the fear mongering from right-leaning campaigns. For what it's worth, a lot of the essay I linked above encapsulates why I voted for Harris.

Here's his case FOR Harris, which he admittedly spends little time on. It's definitely worth reading the whole essay linked above. It's short:

The positive case for Harris is simple: She will be a normal president, surrounded by normal experts, seeking normal political ends. The scientists she consults will be real scientists. The doctors, real doctors. Her administration will not be a 4chan thread come to life. Her foreign policy will not be made in consultation with podcasters who hock gold, ivermectin, and MREs. The notion of banning some vaccines will not receive serious consideration. Grifters and lunatics like Alex Jones, Tucker Carlson, and Candace Owens won’t be short-listed for weekends in the Lincoln bedroom. The final stage of her campaign wasn’t organized and funded by an increasingly erratic billionaire who hallucinates about the strategic replacement of white America, and she will owe him no debt of gratitude. The positive case for Harris is easy to make: She is a sane public servant who will be committed to the rule of law and the betterment of our society.

My own mock CFP projections

Power 4 conference winners

B10 - OSU over Oregon
ACC - SMU over Miami
SEC - Texas over Ole Miss
B12 - Iowa State over BYU

G5 top ranked - Boise State

Fairly obvious at large's

Oregon
Notre Dame
Miami (Obvious due to undefeated regular season)

That leaves the following teams for the remaining 4 spots.

Indiana (11-1, loss at OSU, no elite wins)
Penn State (11-1, loss home to OSU, no elite wins)
Georgia (Loss at Bama, and loss at Ole Miss, but win at Texas, over Tennessee)
Bama (Loss to Vandy, Loss to Tennessee, wins over Georgia, Mizzou, LSU)
Tennessee (Loss at Georgia, and at Arkansas, but win over Bama, no other huge wins)
BYU (Loss in B12 title game, no huge wins)
Ole Miss (3 losses, but win over Georgia, and played in SEC title game)
LSU (3 losses, but win over Ole Miss, and at Vandy)

Projections

1 seed OSU, playing winner of 8 Georgia v 9 Penn State

2 seed Texas, playing winner of 7 Miami v 10 Bama

3 seed SMU, playing winner of 6 Notre Dame v 11 Indiana

4 seed Iowa State, playing winner of 5 Oregon v 12 Boise State

I would actually love this draw. I do think IU's relative lack of SOS will hurt our seeding, if we do lose to OSU. But its hard to see us not making it. 1 loss BYU team might be biggest threat to bump a team like IU. But it would take that, AND a 2 or even 3 loss SEC type team to also leap frog IU. Don't think that happens.

2025 Schedule

Unless we win out in the regular season this year, there is a reasonable chance that we will find ourselves on the outside looking in when it comes to the CFP. The argument against us will be that we simply would not have any good wins unless we beat O$U. We will see how it plays out, but to end up 11-1 and not get into the playoffs would be absolutely devastating. There is nothing we can do about this this year except keep winning (or hope that the committee values the decisiveness of our victories in the event that we do not win out).

However, Dolson needs to act immediately in order to prevent us from being in a similar situation next year. In my opinion our schedule next year is shaping up to be pretty weak as well. We do play Oregon and PSU on the road but don't have to play OSU or Michigan. The lesson to be learned from this year is that we cannot rely on the conference schedule alone to supply us with a difficult enough schedule to get into the CFP. Therefore, Dolson needs to look into beefing up our non-conference schedule. The lineup of Old Dominion, Kennesaw State and Indiana State is an absolute abomination. No hyperbole at all here - this may be one of the weakest non-conference schedules in the recent history of college football. We need to rid ourselves of the remnants of Tom Allen's Cupcake Shop ASAP.

Get to work, Scott! Our guys deserve better.

I've turned the corner mentally....

This must be what if felt like to be an Alabama fan when Saban was coaching.

Michigan?

F*ck them. We will curb stomp the Wolverines!

Ohio State?

Cignetti >>>>>> Day

I ain't even worried.

Purdue?

We might drop 70 on that sorry program.

Will be fun celebrating a B1G title in Indy!

Then who?

We will pick off Beck four times.

Cignetti >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> the pope

God loves us more.

We are f*cking beating everyone!

IU's CFP odds increased significantly this weekend

We are now at 87%, up from 63%, to make the CFP. TX A&M, Iowa St, and Clemson all lost and that raised our odds. If we go 11-1 we are at 98% to qualify, and if things continue to trend our direction, host a 1st round game. TN is ahead of us and they will lose at GA. Bama or LSU will have 3 losses after this week. GA still has to go to Ole Miss. Beat O$U and none of the projections matter, but 11-1 has become a sure thing to qualify.

Woodson recruiting like Archie now....

to continually lose out to others on top players that have looked at IU, that's the pace Woodson is one ,tells me he likes the portal route way better than recruiting HS players. Gonna bite him soon but hurt IU far more. Never saw so many Indiana kids and others choose anyone but IU. If this season is underwhelming,IU has to make a change.

Who ratted out P'nut the squirrel?

I'm surprised there's been no discourse regarding this travesty of justice yet by this august body of deep thinkers...

This case should, by itself, stand as a flaming warning as to what will happen if the jackbooted zealots of the DNC are allowed to gain near complete power throughout the land...

What's next?!?

Do they come for your parrot just because your wife uses it as a background set piece for her Only Fans site?!?

Will Fido be targeted because you found him wandering in the wild and he happens to meanderthru her shoot unannounced???!!!

What about your pet goat??? On second thought, I imagine most would agree we can make an exception when it comes to allowing the state to euthanize those obnoxious, filthy animals at their leisure...😉...

This sort of thing needs to be stopped at the source!

Vote Republican (especially if you live in NY)...!

Hey...

One guys fringe issue is another man's scathing polemic against injustice as he sees it...
😎🍺🇺🇸

Couldn’t be more impressed

I’m no Indiana fan, but I have to say that I’ve really been enjoying what you guys have been doing this year. This is not like some crazy Cinderella season where you’re pulling out these cardiac wins week after week. You’re dominating teams. Buckeyes better be locked in and ready for November 23. I know you’re going to bring it. Good luck.
