What was the attendance like today?

Disappointed in the crowd today. Students arrived late and many of them left in the third quarter. It was damned hot.

That stadium looks great. AV systems are top notch.
How was the "feel" with the SEZ? Did it make as big a difference as the NEZ did?

It feels more intimate...even smaller.
I like that. I went over there a couple weeks ago and walked around. That's what it felt like to me. The NEZ made a huge difference in that regard. In the empty stadium, it felt like the SEZ added that much more to it.

Bill and Martha Lee were wonderful people whom I knew extremely well. He was the pride of Owensboro and no one loved IU more.
Bill was an amazing man with a strong natural intellect and humor. IU doesn't seem the same without that big guys presence. Leadership like that is hard to find around the powers that be now.

I was there 30 minutes before the kick and stayed till the end.

It was hot as F, but I wanted to get a good luck at what I think this team is becoming. I was in the 1st row of section 3. I had plenty of room to spread out until the group of drunks came in at the end of the first quarter.

The one drunk started complaining about how hot it was with about 12 minutes before half. They were gone before halftime. They were from out of town because the one girl was asking for the hotel key. They weren't in Btown for the game.

People behind me were complaining we didn't get a stop on 3rd down when up by 4 touchdowns.

People yelling at the guy next to me for standing up on 3rd down? smh

People are ignorant or don't care. It will take time.

I will tell you this, IU has the look of a power 5 program. Ball and Crawford are impressive up close. The team speed was very noticeable to me today.

whoa is me you sitting in the East stands. The west stands were just an oven. Regardless I was only commenting on the seats if you were referring to my comments. I

The team however was Good. 3.5 out of 5 stars. The defense will have to pick up the pace in Big 10 play. They are fast but a much bigger task starting next week.

Uh....I believe both sides (West and East) were exposed to the same sun today directly overhead at mid day. I’m not denying the West stands weren’t hot. They were both ovens. In late afternoon games, however, the sun sets in the west and the East side still gets that sun while the West stands are in the shade.

I will bet that we are both burnt. It’s all good. You know, it wasn’t just hot in Bloomington. There were plenty of packed stadiums playing in the same exact conditions. My point was only that our fans seem to have a huge issue with it. Are we genetically different? Is there something I don’t know about? That Hoosier Nation is predisposed to heat stroke?

I was disappointed in the crowd. It was effing hot but otherwise a beautiful day. The wife spent the last four minutes before halftime in the concourse to escape the sun for awhile, but it wasn't unbearable. We were both a little gassed from the heat and headed down for the car with about four minutes left.

I don't blame folks for leaving early with the game well in hand and the sun still bearing down, but I was disappointed in how many didn't show up at all. The student crowd was good though for a noon game. I'd guess a total of 32 or33k in the stands.

Very well done. Lots of people hanging along the patio railing watching the entire game. A big area that many fans congregate. Need more concession areas in general. They took away one down near section 31. Everyone funneling into 2 on the East side with 20 minute waits.

Disappointing crowd to be sure but more than 33k. There weren't 20k open seats. 35-37k

How is liking basketball better bizarre here in Indiana since this state is the capital of basketball. Also the basketball program has won a lot through their history where the football program has not. Why is it fans like you who is only a football fan which I don't understand always blames everything on the basketball program. College basketball to me is way more exciting and the tournament is the best sporting event we have in this country. I would bet places like UK, UNC, Duke and KU is doing just fine being a basketball school and probably favor basketball over football. If you want to follow a football school then go ahead and find another to program to root for or just stop making excuses and back all programs at IU.
You are so typical. Your basketball first and only is stupid. Do you not take pride in IU men's soccer, ( much more success than basketball), Iu baseball, Lily King. You come across very much as a reversible jacket fan which I find disgusting.

What exactly are you meaning that @td75 is "blaming" the basketball program? For what? You would agree there are more IU basketball fans than football fans, amirite? Is it fair to say the basketball only fans, are a big reason why the football stadium isn't packed? Would you dare go on the IU basketball forum and tell them the basketball only fans aren't real IU fans?

Well then yes I wasn't trying to be a p*ssy but damn I'm burnt to a crisp! :). I mean laughing ass burnt! There were little kids (toddlers and babies) sitting all around us and at least the mom and dads were bringing them in the shade every so often.

I guess with the weather lately I sure didn't expect a burner like today. Anyways its not an excuse. I expected a huge crowd after the ball state showing last week and an in state team. It was okay.

If IU expects to fill the stands they are gonna have to make a damn serious run . If they knocked off some giants people might come but it will have to be consistent and regular! jmho

Scott's just insecure about football being 3-0. It comes off that way, it really does.

It’s honestly a built-in excuse with our fan base. Last week, it was the “I’m sugar, I’ll dissolve in the rain” crowd.
This week, it was the “I’m a little snowflake, I might melt today.”

Before anybody gets defensive here, If you fall into one of those groups, I saw people today in wheelchairs, geriatrics sweating it out, a woman in probably her 60s hobbling up and down the stairs in a boot/cast.

Somebody at the game asked me: “What do you think about Romeo?”
To which I replied:

“I’ll worry about Romeo when it’s his turn to play. Right now, I really like this Scott kid!”

Sorry to hurt feelings but our fan base can be mentally weak.

In my seat from opening kick to final gun both games and can honestly say I was more comfortable in the monsoon game last week than baking in the concrete bowl today. Regardless, 3 and 0 and Go Hoosiers!!!!!!!

OMG people will think us crazy but I totally agree. I hate sitting in the sun for extended time....give me clouds, snow or rain...hey its FB!!

M$U game 7 days out: the NWS says 70% chance of perfect weather with a high temperature in the low 70's (this is for real).

Hi retard

am I a week early?

maybe, maybe not

Ha ha! Your timing has always been horrible. Doesn’t matter when you surface. Shouldn’t you be over on the basketball board trying to figure out if you are in the right season?

Hint: football goes into November and then basketball starts its games. Pretty easy for most other fanbases to figure out the start and stop point of each. Even Kentucky has figured it out.

I also saw a woman taken out on a stretcher and several escorted out by medics.

You would never hear a question like that at Michigan State, Wisconsin, Michigan or OSU. And, they appropriately shift gears when it’s time to shift gears to the next sport. They’ll have no problem packing their arenas in January and getting loud. We don’t have some kind of “patent” on basketball enthusiasm.
Actually Michigan and Ohio State have a lot of trouble packing their arena and making it loud quite often in basketball. They have lots of attendance problems there.

I got a lot of respect for you Andy but BB just isn't the same for many many IU fans. RMK then the next 20 years has left a bad taste in many a mouth. FB is a chance to start fresh in a way...and I am sorry but talk about BB during BB season...its FB time...which is way more exciting than BB if you look at it that way, which many do. I don't care what happened in the past and I am 67...now is all that matters. Our BB program is just about as far away from being a championship program as our FB program now. They are about equal in development. And where does the real money lie? FB baby...just win and bring them in and it will dwindle BB revenue

FB for IU has a tougher road to being a winner than the BB does...but Im not sure to me that makes it more exciting.
I think you might not be very up on what’s happening in basketball.

Didn’t seem to hurt Belein’s tournament performances or recruiting. Michigan’s 2018 class had an avg 4 star rating and we were 4.2 stars. Recruits must not care about a few empty seats.

Scott - We had a bunch of money to offer our last basketball coach and Donovan kindly said no. If we are elite status and “basketball crazy” with major sex appeal where are these elite coaches lining up around the corner? By the way, I really like Archie. Glad to have him. But....people throw around these names like Urban and Saban and blather on that they wouldn’t come here. Fine. But don’t trick yourself into thinking that basketball is attracting all these high profile guys. That ship has sailed. However, I am perfectly fine with a good young coach. Everybody starts out building from somewhere. I just don’t want to hear any more of this stuff about IU football attracting the high profile names when across the lot we don’t have guys lining up with big time, lengthy resumes. It’s irony.
Donovan! You really expected a professional coach to leave and come to Indiana? My guess is that you got mad when Bobby got fired and refuse to follow them. I was mad too, but I’m not going to deprive myself of basketball for the rest of my life. We’ve had some really great players. Victor Oladipo is my all time favorite and a great human being also. IU is still always listed as one of the premier jobs and basketball schools in the country. That didn’t die with Coach Knight’s dismissal.

That’s not what I was addressing though, was it? I was addressing the statement that those schools had no trouble packing it in in January.

I always support and expect iu2win in every sport. For whatever reasons, I have always enjoyed college basketball a bit more than other sports (yet NBA games do not interest me at all). That's just my preference. Still, I drove over 5 hours to see the FIU game and flew home (I'm a native Hoosier and IU grad) for the Virginia game and sat through every minute. I walked with family to see the renovations to AH and the South End Zone at the stadium and both are awesome.

I read this forum much more than I post and the enthusiastic banter pro/con one sport over another in this thread is interesting to say the least. This why IU fans the world over are known as some of the most passionate anywhere. I'm iu2win and I'm a HOOSIER !!!

Was saying u were one of the people. I have heard countless fans make jokes about - oh, IU has a football team, we will never be good, etc. IF IU gets to Iowa’s level or say MSU I would take that in a heartbeat. Do see any reason if Northwestern can have a successful program that IU can’t.
I m not one of those people because I have been a fan since the early 70's. I remember listening to all the games when very little of the games were on TV. I remember listening to the Nebraska game in the late 70's when we got beat by over 50 points so don't tell me I joked about not knowing IU had a football team.

I love all IU sports and want them all to do well but just asking why it was bizarre for Indiana people to prefer basketball. Like I have said many times I have been a fan of all IU sports for over 40 years so I am as far from being a reversible jacket as you can be.

Being a Basketball First fan isn't atypical or unusual, and it's easy to understand -- we've been able to watch IU basketball on TV for forever, nearly every game since the early 70s. At the same time, IU football was never on TV to speak of, maybe once every couple-three years, and it was a huge deal when it happened. Non IU (Bloomington) students didn't see them regularly as students, and never developed the connection with football like people did watching IU basketball all season long.

The BTN has changed all that, but developing a fan base from the ground up is going to take time. Winning will help. The stadium improvements have to help. The whole gameday experience is a great one, we just need to give people a good reason to check it out. I personally think we need to figure out a way to get students in the stadium (and figure out how to get them to stay) and get younger kids in there as well, even if it means giving the seats away. I'd also like to see an effort to get some of us less affluent fans in the stands, somehow, some way. The only way I can go to games is when I get tickets comped to me from my workplace. I got me a set of four VIP seats this year -- for the monsoon. <sigh>

How a fanbase could like college basketball more than college football is truly bizarre. There's only a few fanbases like that, unfortunately this is certainly one of them. This fanbase even thinks it's the smartest basketball people the world over...

I've always said that if IU football could produce a couple of magical seasons, the light would come on for this fanbase. I don't know though, hundreds of thousands of people who think college basketball is better than college football is pretty damn goofy.
Well, I agree but I can't go so far as to call people who like CBB more than CFB goofy, it's a subjective thing & there can be no doubting the magic of March madness, nontheless, I also agree that with a big year or two, we'd turn into Wisconsin, or Oregon, or another once dormant fan base that falls victim to fair weather rabidity. I wouldn't be too harsh on us though, a spate of 3-9 seasons, & many of those programs with continually sold out stadiums would soon be empty, it's human nature & the way the world works.

Yup midway through the first it was pretty good. Gotta tell you though it was f-in hot out! Damn i was struggling before half. The sun was blazin!
Indeed. I sat thru every minute of IU football for many years, but yesterday I left at halftime and went to Nick's to watch the game. My wife couldn't take the heat, but I didn't argue about leaving. It was miserably hot.

You want to know what one of the greatest “magic” tricks is with March Madness?

The IU program vanishes from the bracket.

It’s a pretty cruel trick on the audience though.
