We’ll have to see what the roster ends up looking like, but we are gonna be incredibly young/inexperienced at DT.
Here’s how I see it as things stand today:
QB - will be better due to experience. Ramsey should still start, with Penix mixed in.
RB - like QB, will be better due to experience and getting Gest back from injury. Scott should start, with Gest & Walker Jr. backing up. Could see true frosh James & Winters depending on injuries (or how good they are), but we are deep here.
WR - another strength, as our skill positions look good. Top 4 will be Westbrook, Hale, Whop, & Fryfogle, with Reese, redshirt frosh Marshall & Hewitt, and maybe true frosh Jakes & Ellis providing depth.
TE - Dorris may be graduating, so should be Hendershot starting with Bjorson & Bonner primary backups. Maybe redshirt frosh Ivy.
OL - Should be about the same as this year, barring injuries. Decent, but not great. Very up & down. Should see 3-ish returning starters in Cronk, Littlejohn, & Stepaniak. Probably joined by Crider at LG to replace Martin & Jones at RT to replace Knight. Love is graduating early, so backups are unproven outside of Nworah, and he was hurt most of this year. Sophs Smith, Beery, & Dellinger better be ready to play. Or redshirt frosh Rafferty & Marozas. I’d expect us to add a JUCO/grad transfer or 2 here.
DT - starters will be experienced in Johnson & Wilson, but depth is young & inexperienced. True frosh will have to be ready to play. Ouch.
DE - should be better with experience but guys will need to take that next “leap” in order for this not to be a weakness. Everett & Stallings probable starters but looking for guys like Head, Bryant, Ziemba, King, & Reece to step up.
LB - should be slightly better due to experience, but still not a strength. Jones, Roof, Allen, McFadden, Miller, & Burnam figure to play the most.
Husky (hybrid LB/DB) - strong with Ball & Jones.
CB - a lot of guys, but need guys to separate themselves from the pack. Brown, Riggins, Williams, Layne, Johnson, Reese, & maybe true frosh Tracy to play the most.
S - should be a strength with Fitzgerald, Matthews, Bryant, Johnson, & Burgess.
In summary, it’s really about the trenches again. Need to get better on both sides. Will probably need to add some JUCO/grad guys.
Schedule is brutal.
Doesn’t look good.
Looking for staff changes in the off-season.
