Roe overturned. Be kind

Among women its about 2/3rds in favor of Roe.

It would probably be about 10% if they ever had an 'opportunity' to witness an abortion, instead of just talking about it in the abstract.

I expect that watching a fetus "resist abortion" live would have a big effect on your #s. Why is that?

nah — most adult humans can imagine the process w/o the gore porn. It’s not changing any minds. Stuff like this only reinforces the views of people who were already pro-life.

have you been swayed by any of the gory family stories of women who will now be criminals if they don’t carry babies no one wants to term? Didn’t think so…

There isn't going to be a compromise on anything. 25-26 states will ban abortion in all cases with very limited exceptions (in some cases none) . Other states will continue on as they have done with no changes.

How on earth do you come to conclusion there will be some national compromise as you describe? That's likely not even feasible on a federal level.... absent a constitutional ammendment.
I think that should be the compromise and everyone shut up about it. Unfortunately, that won’t happen.

I don't think that most adult humans have spent more than 1 minute contemplating the subject. For Leftists, about 30 seconds.

I've seen leftists get pissed when pictures are posted of aborted babies.

"It's not fair!". They know the effect those pictures have.

If that is what the DoD said, one more reason we have the stupidest cabinet ever. The military providing abortions has zilch to do with Roe v Wade. I think SecDef is just virtue signaling.

On the positive side, what a great recruiting incentive, join the military and have convenient abortions.
You forgot the first step:

Get pregnant so you can join the military so you can get an abortion.

You clearly don’t think like a woman. 🙄

Not sure why you’d think that but before you post more gore porn keep in mind that some woman relative that you love very much got an abortion at some point and never told you about it.

Most people absolutely understand the implications of ending a pregnancy or having a child they weren’t planning to have. You think otherwise just because they don’t share your view? Maybe time to realize that folks on the other side are just as convinced they are right as you. I think that knowledge will help keep you from dabbling in weird gore porn.

I was just watching a little Watters World. Is AOC really proposing that Biden open up Planned Parenthoods in national parks in red states? 😆😆😆

Am a liberal in many ways along with sharing values with my conservative buddies, but never take pols such as Bernie or AOC seriously.

Imagine watching it on film or live.

Look at civil rights in the U.S. Things changed when people could see on TV what it was really like for AAs.

Same for the Vietnam War.....

It is the reason we aren't a democracy but are instead a democratic republic.
Considering the other countries that are labeled as “democratic republics”, Im not any of us on either side of the isle should be too excited about accepting that term.

It does seem more appropriate with a one term president picking 33% of the court. It’s great for the GOP in the moment, but I’m sure what it means for the future.

You had no issue with it when the court was stacked the other direction and delivering opinions that went against your political opponents.

A true democracy leads to a tyranny of the majority. And in this case, the court actually made a more democratic ruling than Roe or Casey ever were. In the case of Roe, 9 men made a decision to allow something that was very much not acceptable to the majority of the public. 9 people. In this case, a different 9 people said that wasn't right. It needed to be debated by the people's representatives. Why do you hate democracy? That is tongue in cheek, but sorry not sorry that the left finally "lost" something. Go make your case to the people. You know...that democracy thing you are trying to argue.

Looks like GenCon might be saying sayonara to Indianapolis. I don't know the contract situation, term, etc. but this doesn't look good.

While certainly not life threatening for Indy businesses it's not a positive. Let's see if economic ramifications play a part in the SB1 timeline

Edit to add: I believe it was GenCon who cried foul on RFRA back in the day and got Pence to back down.

Yep, go almost every year, leave tonight for it. Of course the last two I couldn't do. It is great fun.

For us nerds, a bunch of guys who work for the alphabet agencies put together role playing games where you might be a US Senator, a Russian Tycoon, or an Iranian Mullah. Events happen and you respond to them. They run these for the military. It is pretty fun. I was in a group that managed to stop WW1 from happening in one of these, but also in one that led to a nuclear war between India and Pakistan. So that is one of MANY things happening at Gencon (National Security Demo Module).

Now, spending the weekend with 50,000 plus people gaming sure is likely to be a super-spreader event.

Do you pay for this? Register? Can you show up and play? I was thinking of taking my son after seeing this.

You can show up and buy a badge and get tickets to events. It only sold out at like 75000 for their 50th. This year is well under that. This year you do have to show proof of vaccine AND wear a mask. Believe me, I'm annoyed at that second one. But I'll put on the big boy costume and deal with it without complaint there.

You can see events here:

Many are sold out.

Saturday is a fun day, at 3PM the cosplayers have a parade. Some of these people do a LOT of work on their costumes.

Ohm and if you are a gamer or have geek interests, the vendor hall is huge and has a ton of stuff. But like everything else, you have to have a pass and a wristband showing proof of vaccine to get in.

There is an Axis and Allies tournament????!!!!!

Oh yes, that is huge. There are regularly scheduled A&A games, not in tourney form. But the tournament brings in a lot of people. I've never played in the tournament, but I have played in the standalone A&A games at Gencon.

I go to another con some years, World Boardgaming Championships. I don't know if the A&A tournament at Gencon is like this, but there are people at WBC that have played these wargames well over 1000 times. I've probably played Russian Campaign, my favorite, 40 times. So I go out and free play and don't enter the championship tournaments. I don't have much self-respect, I want to preserve what little I have.

So just now reading about this, but it looks like a possible sticky issue for DeSantis in FL, which might prove interesting. Not only is he possibly going to be caught up in some Roe fallout, but also the state is being sued over a religious liberty issue, by 5 Religious leaders representing religions that support abortion. I'll have to do a deeper dive, but it seems like this may place a "champion of religious liberty" like Old Ron in a bit of a sticky wicket.

The issue with my post is my lack of skills at anything beyond a simple copy/paste operation. So the list just didn't transfer completely from the original source I used... I just counted Presidents as they appeared on the page...

I honestly think that crazy was just (obliviously) regurgitating the right wing line, and honestly had no idea how large the discrepancy between GOP and Dem appointments is. I'd imagine very few of the drones mindlessly repeating attacks on Roe as a "liberal" activist decision, are even aware that the GOP held the majority of filled roles on the SCOTUS that established that precedent. That's why the plethora of legal "scholars" (including Alito and Thomas) deriding Roe as "faulty" is hilarious. It basically amounts to Trumpist Justices attacking GOP appointees on the previous SCOTUS...

Seriously, has anyone outside of ultra MAGA land really ever considered Alito or Thomas as "brilliant" legal thinkers?

Roosevelt and Truman appointed 12 or 13? in a row, then Eisenhower got 5 (all picked with a Democrat majority in Senate), and Kennedy and Johnson added another 4. And at least one of Eisenhower's picks was liberal as hell. Which is why your list cut in when it did. Right before Nixon the Democrats had picked the majority of the justices.

And if you go back in my post I never said "packed'. I said you had no issue with that few people making the decision when it was stacked in your favor.

Eisenhower had shit picks which is why Roe (decided in 1973) ended how it did. William Brennan was liberal as all get out and he was an Eisenhower pick.

You blame Brennan. He's not the justice who wrote the Roe opinion. Blackmun was. He was a Nixon appointee. The two justices voting against allowing abortion were White - a Kennedy appointee - and Rehnquist, who was appointed to the court by Nixon and later appointed Chief Justice by Reagan.

Oh, and CJ Burger concurred in Blackmun's opinion.

I consider packed and stacked synonyms, but you're correct you said stacked. It's not the "liberals" problems if GOP Presidents appointed SCOTUS justices who shifted their opinions when they were faced with actual consequential decisions rather than just theoretical opinions...

While I realize that SCOTUS decisions are not based on popular opinion, I'm still not prepared to cede the moral authority to strip away citizens' civil rights to people with the "credibility" of Alito, and two pretty obvious deviates such as Thomas and Kavanaugh. We won't even get into the slimy ways that McConnell delivered what should have at the very least been 2 Obama picks to Trump...

Do any of the board's resident, non-MAGA legal experts consider either Alito or Thomas as brilliant when it comes to legal minds? I'd be shocked if that were the case, but I guess you never know...
