We are behind the SEC but a good bit in front of everyone else for money pouring in from the conference.

Sports are part of the university. IU isn’t in the business of sports. It’s a research university.

If a department is more successful than another, it may help to covers the expenses by sending money up and redistributing it as necessary. IU just isn’t a pro franchise. There are many other parts of the university that need help and can’t produce at the same level. If anyone wants to root for a sports franchise, please feel free to root for UNC, Duke, AZ, Syracuse, KU, UCONN, USC, pretty much the entire SEC, the old SWC schools, ... at least the players get paid there.

When did someone say there wasn’t money to buyout Crean? I don’t recall reading that. Of course IU asks for money. I don’t recall it being asked for a buyout.

The problem is McRobbie has drawn from the athletics till. I have issues with that...Its laziness x10. If the guy had half the gumption of Fred he would go out and pitch donors. There are plenty of willing alum to support his wishes. Most athletic departments struggle so for him to pull from that is not good business. JMHO

If you read the article I posted you'll see that most universities struggle supporting athletics. It come from tuition monies in most cases. Fred has raised a ton of money through donors and its public knowledge. According to many (especially on the football board) he hasn't done enough compared to what everyone else in the conference is doing. If sports had to take from science or humanities (no comment) then the athletic department would probably close. Believe me if socialism arrives here you can kiss it all goodbye.

You’re off the reservation if you don’t think the University sees huge benefits from the Athletic Department. Application for admissions would tank if IU dropped athletics.

The university should want the athletic department to be as successful as possible (while playing by the rules) and not stealing money from the ADs coffers.

Shit, the marketing value alone by seeing IU across cable TV all year long (football and basketball) is worth millions to the University. Imagine the eyeballs that would see the IU name if we were to make a Rose Bowl? The university stealing money from the AD only makes that goal that much more difficult to achieve.

The athletic department should have access to the money it earns and be properly funded first. Any funds left over should go to either financial assistance. capital improvements, or other programs that aren't properly funded.
