Alright. The response that I got back:

The link only works for people who are not signed into rivals at the time. If you sign out yourself, you will see the difference.

Basically it is a branded signup form with the code already filled in.

So for you to sign up for the trial, you'd have to make a new account, it seems like. That's what I've gathered with this trial.
