IU strikes out 14 in 5-4 loss
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the sixth but Cincinnati responded immediately with two runs in the top of the seventh to retake the lead and held on for a 5-4 win at Bart Kaufman Field on Wednesday evening.
Freshman
Logan Sowers hit a 2-RBI single in the sixth to give IU its last advantage, giving the Hoosiers the lead and momentum, but quickly lost it in the following frame.
An RBI double tied the game for the Bearcats and left runners in scoring position. Senior
Ryan Halstead took over on the mound and hit the first batter, loading the bases.
Halstead retired three of the next four batters, including two of his career-high seven strikeouts, but UC converted a single to bring in the winning run with one out.
Indiana took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on
Scott Donley's RBI groundout.
The Hoosiers scored again in the third on
Isaiah Pasteur's solo home run to tie the game, 2-2, but the Bearcats would respond with a run of their own to take a 3-2 lead in the fourth.
LHP
Kyle Hart, the first of five on the mound for IU Wednesday, started for the Hoosiers, tossing five strikeouts in just two innings.
