Pyne walked to load the bases with one out and Wiggins up as the No. 9 hitter and DH.

Wiggins lined out to the SS for the second out with the bases still loaded. The top of the order up, Mathison flied out to the warning track to leave the bases loaded.

3rd inning:

T3rd:

It's the 2 thru 4 hitters up with Oliver leading off. Oliver reached on a single.

An error on a pickoff attempt by the pitcher moved Oliver to 2nd.

A groundout moved Oliver to 3rd and one out with Cerny up.

Cerny was hit by a pitch to put runners on the corners with one out and Mitchell up.

Mitchell double off the CF wall to score Oliver and runners on 2nd and 3rd and still one out.

Brenczewski singled to score Cerny with runners on the corners and one out.

Mitchell scored on a passed ball to make it 4-1 with Brenczewski taking 2nd.

Brenczewski took 3rd on a WP. A double by Stadler scored Brenczewski to make it 5-1 with a runner at 2nd and one out. A shallow flyout by Pyne resulted in the 2nd out.

Wiggins grounded out to retire the side.

It's the top of the order up for the Terps. Bothwell had a very efficient inning in putting them down in order.

4th inning:

T4th:

It was the top of the order up with Mathison leading off. IU went down in order and the Terps pitcher's PC is 68.

B4th:

Bothwell was back out there with a PC of 43 and he faced the middle of the order. Bothwell Kd the leadoff batter but the batter reached on a dropped ball by Stadler and the throw to 1st wasn't in time.

A single put runners on 1st and 2nd. Another singled scored the runner from 2nd with the runner on 1st ending up at 2nd on the throw with runners at 2nd and 3rd and no outs. The dropped ball on the 3rd strike to start the bottom of the inning is really biting IU on the rear at this point.

A SAC fly scored another run with one out. Another single put a runner on 1st with one out.

A FC got the runner at 2nd with two outs and a runner at 1st. The runner at 1st stole 2nd.

Bothwell walked the next batter on a full count to put runners on 1st and 2nd, and that dropped 3rd strike seemed to set the tone for this long inning. A flyout ended the inning.

End of 4th: IU 5 Terps 4

It's the middle of the order up for IU with Cerny leading off. Cerny was hit by the first pitch he saw.

Cerny was out at 2nd on a FC with a runner at 1st and one out.

Brenczewski doubled to LF scoring Mitchell from first and one out. Stadler popped out for the 2nd out.

Pyne Kd to retire the side, stranding Brenczewski at 2nd.

B5th:

It's the 3 thru 5 hitters up for the Terps. Bothwell put them down in order, all on strikeouts.

End of 5th: IU 6 Terps 4

6th inning:

T6th:

It was the 9 thru 2 hitters up for IU with Wiggins leading off. Wiggins walked on a 3-1 count and we were at the top of the order with Mathison up.

Mathison Kd swinging for the first out with Wiggins still at 1st.

Oliver walked on a full count to put runners at 1st and 2nd and one out with Taylor up.

Taylor Kd for the 2nd out and runners still at 1st and 2nd.

Cerny Kd to strand two more runs as IU has stranded 8 runners through 6 innings. The Terps pitcher will probably be replaced in the 7th since he has over 100 pitches on the game.

B7th:

It's the 6 thru 8 hitters up for the Terps. The leadoff hitter doubled off the wall in CF. Bothwell was at 93 pitches.

Bothwell picked off the runner at 2nd for the first out. Bothwell then got a K for the 2nd out and the bases empty.

A flyout ended the inning and Bothwell was over 100 pitches so Ethan Phillips was expected to be on the mound in the 7th.

End of 7th: IU 6 Terps 4

7th inning:

T7th:

The Terps brought in LHP Evan Smith with an ERA of 4.05 in 6.2 IP and he faced the 5 thru 7 hitters for IU with Mitchell leading off.

Mitchell walked on a 3-1 count to lead off.

A WP moved Mitchell to 2nd and no outs. Brenczewski flied out with Mitchell taking 3rd and one out.

Stadler singled to score Mitchell to make it 7-4 with one out and a runner at 1st.

Pyne singled to put runners on 1st and 2nd with one out. Mercer brought Sefcik in to pinch hit for Wiggins and he Kd looking.

I don't get bringing Sefcik in to pinch hit when he was 1 for 22 on the season with Wiggins having much better numbers. Sefcik had done nothing but struggle at the plate.

Mathison grounded out for the last out with IU now having stranded 10 runners through 7 innings.

B7th:

IU brought in RHP Ethan Phillips with an ERA of 5.87 in 23 IP and he faced the 9 thru 2 hitters.

Phillips got the leadoff hitter on a groundout and we were at the top of the order.

Phillips then walked the next batter on a full count.

A WP moved the runner to 2nd and one out.

A groundout moved the runner to 3rd and two outs. Phillips walked the next batter on four pitches with runners on the corners and two outs.

IU went to the bullpen and brought in LHP Brandon Keyster with an ERA of 5.56 in 11.1 IP. A lineout to RF ended the inning.

End of 7th: IU 7 Terps 4

Stadler singled to score Mitchell to make it 9-4 IU and runners on 1st and 2nd and two outs.

Pyne doubled to score Brenczewski and Stadler to make it 11-4 with still two outs and a runner at 2nd.

Sefcik flied out to retire the side.

B8th:

It was the 5 thru 7 hitters up for the Terps and IU brought in RHP Brayden Risedorph with an ERA of 8.64 in 25.0 IP. Risedorph put them down in order.

It was the top of the order up with Mathison leading off. The Terps went to the bullpen and brought in RHP Duke McCarron with an ERA of 3.60 in 5.0 IP.

Mathison popped up on the infield for the first out.

Oliver singled to put a runner on with one out.

Taylor Kd swinging for the 2nd out.

Cerny singled to put runners on 1st and 2nd and two outs.

A deep fly by Mitchell just missed going out and hit the top of the CF wall to score two more runs to make it 13-4 with a runner at 2nd and two outs.

Brenczewski was hit by a pitch to put runners on 1st and 2nd with two outs.

Stadler was hit by a pitch to load the bases with two outs.

Pyne singled to bring in both Mitchell and Brenczewski to make it 15-4 with two runners on and two outs.

Bode came in to pinch hit and grounded out to retire the side.

B9th:

It's the 8 thru 1 hitters up for the Terps and IU brought in RHP Jacob Vogel to close it out with an ERA of 1.08 in 8.1 IP.

Vogel walked the leadoff hitter on a 3-1 count. Vogel went 2-0 on the next batter with Glant paying a visit to the mound, and Vogel recovered to K the batter on a full count for the first out.

A single put runners on 1st and 2nd with one out. A FC got the runner at 3rd for two outs and runners at 1st and 2nd. Vogel then walked a batter on a full count to load the bases.

A flyout ended the game.

Final: IU 15 Terps 4

It was a cold evening to be playing, but IU had one of their better games of the season in the conditions. It wasn't a three-game shellacking that we got last season by the Terps at The Bart, but it was good to give some of that back to them in this game even if we can't take the next two games in the same fashion.

It's good to get a solid game on a Friday to start a series since we have had problems getting off to good starts in game one of series dating back to last season. It's hard to criticize any aspect of tonight's game.

IU outhit the Terps 19 to 7 and was 19 for 46 for .413 as a team while the Terps were 7 of 33 for .212. Maryland had the only homer which was a two-out solo homer in the 1st. IU had 7 doubles to the Terps' one double with some of the doubles off the wall. IU had six players with multiple hits and that was with Mathison and Taylor going 0 for 12 on the day and I believe that ended an 18-game on base string for Taylor since he failed to reach base.

Mitchell - 4 for 5 with 2 doubles and 4 RBIs and he scored 5 runs.

Brenczewski - 4 for 5 with a double and 3 RBIs and he scored 3 runs.

Cerny - 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and 4 runs scored.

Pyne - 3 for 5 with a double and 4 RBIs.

Stadler - 3 for 5 with a double and 3 RBIs.

Oliver - 2 for 5 with 2 runs scored.

IU had no errors tonight while the Terps were charged with one error.

The pitching was pretty good tonight with just 3 of the 4 runs scored by the Terps being earned runs. IU used five pitchers with no one going more than one inning after Bothwell left the game after pitching six innings. Bothwell gave up the three earned runs with the Terps getting a solo homer in the 1st and 3 runs in the 4th. Bothwell Kd the leadoff hitter in the 4th but Stadler dropped the strike 3 ball with the batter reaching 1st safely. Who knows how that inning might have gone if we had gotten the out on that leadoff batter.

Bothwell (W) - 6 IP, 6 hits to include a double and homer and 3 earned runs, 7 Ks, and 2 BBs.

Phillips - 0.2 IP, no hits or earned runs, no Ks, 2 BBs, and a WP.

Keyster - 0.1 IP, he threw just one pitch which was a lineout to end an inning.

Risedorph - 1.0 IP, no hits in facing just three batters.

Vogel - 1.0 IP, 1 hit and no earned runs, 1 K, and 2 BBs.

A couple more games like this and I might be enticed to start watching again. How's that for a bold proclamation that absolutely no one cares about? :)

Appreciate your efforts as always. I also appreciated your guidance to keep Steve's post pinned. At least, I think you did that. Thank you. Mobile.
Thanks for your comment, but no, I had nothing to do with Steve's posts being pinned permanently (at least I hope), although I'm glad they did it.
