Beer and Wine Sales

I wonder if they will do away with pass-outs at the half? Agree that there better be some good local beer but I would highly doubt it.

i'm curious how much they paid the consulting firm.
This is funny.... I worked at a bank where for years the senior management painstakingly sat and worked on plans for the next year. We were trying to trim the fat .... never did anything get implemented. Then one year, the executives decided to spend close to $350,000 on a consultant to tell them where to trim the fat...really? So needless to say very similar conclusions were made that senior management had been suggesting.

The kicker here is after spending the $350,000, they still didn’t implement anything. It just goes to show you, if it isn’t your money, others will spend it on horse shit because it’s there....

Kind of like the CA firm that was hired to “reinvent and modernize” the IU logo. So much was wrong with that and emblematic of the thinking then

When was that? By any chance do you recall the name of the firm? I pay a lot of attention to IU sports, but the episode doesn't sound familiar.

don't recall the name, but do remember it happening.

for some reason, a $55,000 figure comes to mind, but it's been awhile.

don't think it was when we did the "motion" logo during the Sam Wyche era, as that was pre internet, but who knows how much IU paid to have that thing designed.

iirc it was about the height vs width of the pitchfork logo.

seems like they went with less wide and taller.

similar discussions regarding search firms as well.

and didn't we already have alcohol sales in the gated community sections.

This was early 2000s if I remember right. The goal was to unify branding. Was definitely just post Knight. They did a lot of righteous crap much of which was to further certain elitist agendas. Yah I know some will disagree, that’s just my take only. An Indiana firm could have easily been hired and it have been a positive pr move

Better be some of the good local microbrews on tap

Guessing there will be some locals for sure. Maybe even a good national/regional craft like Bells.

However the big boys pay big money for these sponsorships. Texas got around 3 million from Bud. Ohio St got a similar deal. While IU is not at that level they still will sign a sponsorship deal with someone. So expect the bulk of the beer to be Either Millercoors or Budweiser. With a smattering of craft.

They changed the 3d pitchfork into a 2d pitchfork that was slightly thinner in 2000 or there about. I think they also made us a darker shade of red. The $55k sounds about right

I remember it being more but could be wrong. Also made the “I” longer. Award winning work I’m sure

I'm probably the only one here that will disagree with the other people posting on here.

But.... My family and I won't attend another sporting event at IU if there is Beer or Wine sales at the event.

The Bloomington Campus has an alcohol problem.... and this just promotes it.

There are too many sexual assaults in the city of Bloomington... and alcohol can be attributed to many of them.

It's time for the leadership of the University to take accountability for some of these problems,
and to work on cleaning it up on campus.

Don't think they can get much worse than they already are... If they're plowed maybe you/we/I can get them thrown out...
In many decades of watching IU football at Memorial Stadium, the only fight I have ever seen was on the east side with an older OSU fan who was "embravened" by alcohol trying to take on three equally embravened students. Fortunately, security intervened and escorted all of them away.

Of course you are entitled to your opinion. IMO it is misplaced as to actual issues.

It was during McNeely's time as AD, and was the one thing he did that I was fully on board with. As someone who worked for years in Marketing, graphic design and branding, I thought then and still believe that initiative was very much needed. Each team, department, etc. where doing whatever they wanted with colors, logo, etc. It was all over the map. Now they have a unified branding guide with official, approved colors and logo. I always thought the hullabaloo over a non-Hoosier firm and the fee was overblown. Mountains made of molehills. There are all sorts of services rendered by various vendors and goods purchased from manufacturers that are not Indiana-based (when they could be potentially) that no one even knows about much less complains about. The end result was an improved, single, universally-recognized logo over the outdated "3D" look logo they had before, which works much better on signage, branded items, etc., and a return to the Cream & Crimson official IU colors and an enforced consistency on logo and colors which makes a more professional presentation overall than the hodge-podge we had before.

I also have been in business for 25+ years. I agree on most of your consistency presence, a lot was out of whack, however, a lot of $ was spent that should have been 101 level application to begin with. Revised logo was not optimal and in many reproductions applications falls short. Probably better for another thread. Will buy you beer this fall at game. Lol

Im sorry for what has happened to your family/friend...

I dont think IU selling beer promotes or discourages behaviors one way or the other...based on the current game day environment anyway...

2002

The University hired Michael-Osborne Design from San Francisco to redesign the interlocking IU symbol with instructions to apply the crimson color to it. Designer Paul Kagiwada gave the logo a newer, cleaner look. The result is that same iconic symbol you’ll see all over campus today.

I’m still waiting on a unified crimson and a consistent font to find its way into Memorial Stadium. Seems to me we have 5-6 reds and as many as 8 fonts.

I don’t drink but I’m glad it’s happening. Rowdier and more fans.
I don't drink & I'm...trying to see the positives in this. I've forgotten what they are, but I vaguely recall that this is needed from a competitive point of view...in some way.

you can set a standard interlock logo without hiring a firm.

just pick one, and go with it.

You're absolutely not the only one. I try not to be selfish, & only seek out behaviours that serve my own interests, but this just seems like such an obviously bad idea, that it makes it tough not cater to my own interests when so many others are catering to theirs. YAY!! Drunken 21 year-olds again. I can't wait!!

not a lawyer, so wonder if there are any copyright/trademark ramifications.

i believe U of Illinois also has the same interlock on structures going way back.

can the IU interlock be trademarked, or is it?

if not, would defining exact ratios affect that?

Have to disagree, that logo works really well across the board. I think they nailed it And logo design is not as easy as those who haven't done it think it is and make it out to be. It's worth paying for.
I'll take you up on that beer! Hopefully they'll have BBC on tap!

Is it any more than any other college town? Do sexual assaults go down in the off season? I just find it hard to believe that if football was removed from the campus all together...no team.... no games.... that assaults would go down over the fall time frame..... so selling beer at a game imho has the same effect on sexual assault as selling all beef hotdogs do at games. Alcohol is legal... I’m not a supporter of allowing alcohol in the suites but not the stands.... pretty elitist position imo....

It was a great addition at Purdue sporting events, and it is nice to have at any other arena/stadium where you attend a game.

If somebody wants to get drunk, they are going too. Doesn't matter if it's inside or outside the stadium. At least inside the stadium it can be regulated to a degree.

Yep, it actually makes it safer because people will binge-drink less in the parking lot and they can be cut off in the stadium.

The fat cat donors could already drink alcohol in the stadium and can in Assembly Hall in their suites.
