You'd better hold off on any summer plans to visit national parks

Groton if they're still building subs/boats down there.

This is a worthwhile visit if you're already in the Groton area...

I'd be interested in your explanation of calling a $36Trillion debt, growing by $10 Billion daily , a small inefficiency, blown out of proportion....

Honest question...do you read your own posts?
If we ever lose reserve currency we're screwed.

I've been following Parks we plan to visit in 3-4 months. Still lots of uncertainty mixed in with (already) announced closures and decreased services.

Devils Tower National Monument now closes every day at 5PM. Was always open 24 hrs. Sunset is now after 7PM, and in the summer 8:15-9PM

Chaos? Crowds? Understaffed? Long lines at entrances? Full parking lots?

Sounds pretty normal to me.
A lot of them are timed entry now where you sign up for a time to enter and if you aren't there tough luck.

My wife will then have visited all 50 states after this trip. Growing up on a farm I didn't do any traveling growing up, so I have a few left. After this trip I think I will be at 47, needing Idaho, Oregon, and New Mexico.
My wife got her 50th state (ND) about 3 years ago. I think I'm at 48...missing Delaware and Maryland.

I remember reading somewhere that revenues from national parks are almost 10 times the operating costs. Something like 55 billion vs 5 billion.

Anyone know if that's true?

I read that sometime last summer too, but pretty sure the $55 billion number was the total economic impact, not just the specific park revenues.

North Dakota is so often everyone's 50th state that they give away free certificates and T-shirts in Fargo

Looks like we could be headed for a government shutdown.

This is excellent.

Word to the wise for Senate Democrat’s. A lot of the people that get furloughed and a lot of functions that get shutdown will never come back with DOGE lying in wait.

That's actually probably a good idea... If you going to hike/scramble around the base of Devils Tower you'd better do it well before sunset...

Getting the civilian herd headed back to their vehicles before sundown is smart (and they'll always be the stray morons who either drag their feet purposely or get disoriented and temporarily head the wrong way, [which is kind of hard to do]...)... At any rate, that rule helps the Rangers immensely by giving them enough daylight to safely clear the trails well before it gets dark...

Many of the best vantage points of the Tower are actually quite aways away from it... Basically, if you want to see the visitor center, read the park placards, and walk up thru the boulders to the actual base then get there by no later than 3:30 pm... If you want to take decent photos get there as early as possible in the AM (Park opens at 7am); if you just want to say you saw it you probably don't even need to go onto park property to get a decent view...
Also parking is limited so the earlier you get there the better...
