you think this is bad

If we hire the guy, I hope you're right. I just don't see it though.
I'm not saying I want BB, I'm saying that I think it's silly to project similar results for him at IU based on what he did at Clemson. There's been a lot of talk about Chris Collins (which I don't disagree with, either), and I assume folks understand he would likely do better at IU with it's resources than he did at NW, and the same should apply to Brownell. And, all I've ever said is don't get locked in on one guy and interview a bunch of guys. I don't think Dolson would be doing his job if that list didn't include Brownell.

There might not be much difference at all between results at other D1 schools and results at Indiana. I don't think there will be. A little bit, OK.

If the coach has shown he can take a brand new team and win quickly, maybe. But if it took them some years to build at previous schools, they may not be all that good in the 'new era' . It's not all about some 'amazing re$ource$' that Indiana might have in comparison. It's still, or even more so, about being an excellent teacher.

And again, just because you think that, doesn't mean it's reality. Not sure how anyone doesn't think Brownell could do more with IU's resources than Clemson's, but it certainly is a possibility. I think most would assume you'd do better at IU in bball than Clemson.

What I'd guess it is is just that he's hit on a really good group of players. Chase Hunter is a stud, and PJ Hall (last year I think) and this years big Scheiflin? are really good. But, I'd agree, Brownell's reputation has always been as a teacher and bench coach.

Maybe, but again, I don't think you're factoring how hard it is to win in bball at Clemson. Relatively speaking, it's a small school, in the middle of nowhere, contending with Duke, UNC, etc... in the ACC, that only cares about football... and secondarily about baseball. I'm not saying a great coach couldn't have gone there and done better, but they have as little resources and support for bball as can be had at the P5 level. If I had to pick a B10 equivalent, I'd say MN, with 40% of the enrollment. And, I guarantee you MN spends a greater % of their athletic budget on bball than does Clemson.

Getting IU level results at Clemson is pretty good. Exceeding them is really good, and that's what he's done. What he could do with IU resources is likely exponentially better. I'm not saying I want Brownell, I'm just saying he's way, WAY better than CMW.
Really, in the last 50 years here is Clemson's winning % by coach

Brownell 15 years, 60%
Oliver Purnell, 7 years, 61%
Larry Shyatt, 4 year 45%--AWFUL
Rick Barnes 4 years 61%
Cliff Ellis 10 years, 58%
Bill Foster 9 years 60%

He is doing the same thing at Clemson that EVERY coach (except 1) has done there for the last 50 years, winning 60% of his games

Brownell top recruits were 3 to 4 star 90-100 top players most are 3 stars or worse. I think with NIL and access to high 4 star 5 star talent he could go from a good coach to a really good coach. His offensive efficiency is #34 which is really good by the way Drake is 43 and Indiana was 152. They also shoot more threes then Drake and Indiana ranking #164 Drake #338 and Indiana #292. Defense efficiency Clemson #28 Drake #26 and Indiana #111. To say Brownell is Woodson is stupid the guy can coach.
This one is not aging well.
To all the McCollum haters…..he went out and did again what McCollum does game in and game out. Win.
Somebody apparently didn’t get Tamar mad enough for tonight’s game. He would have score 25.

Brownell…..absolutely predictable.

I would rather have McCollum then DeVries its over now McCollum is better coach then DeVries will find out soon when Iowa or West Virginia gets McCollum.

Brownell was a safer bet but McCollum had a higher ceiling. I endorsed Brownell because it was solid safe pick but if your going to take a huge chance at a high celing guy hire McCollum.

Every coaching hire is a risk. People on here talk in absolutes and guarantees. None of us know. The Archie hire was universally praised. Hell, I thought he would do well. Whatever he was doing at Dayton didn’t translate here.
Woodson was an attempt to appease all these big donors who said we “needed an IU guy” to get back to IU ways.
He turned out to be the one coach in the past hires that looked like he learned zero IU values,

Indiana has been awful hiring coaches the last two cycles. Hiring DeVries is taking a gamble I hope it pays off but most Indians fans are like who the hell is that? I think hiring Beard would of been the best thing Dolson could of did. But if your going to take a chance at the moon McCollum has a higher upside then DeVries mutiple national titles and won more games then anybody has ever won at Drake in one season including DeVries.
