You all killed me a month ago after OSU

I do wonder if this team makes the tournament it scares away coaching candidates who see IU firing Woodson after qualifying for the tournament in three out of four seasons and think the university has too high of a standard.

When IU fired Allen it was after three straight horrible seasons, not three bowl games in four years.

It might be best to nip this unwarranted paranoia in the bud stage before blossoming into an invasive species of unwanted desire.

Qualifying -- barely. On the bubble twice, squeeked in as a 12-seed "first four" play-in team and a 15 seed. Didn't make it out of the first weekend. Those don't equate to "bowl-game" seasons for me, but I guess technically it's post-season. I think any coach we'd want to have would look at those results at a school like Indiana and think with that program history and resources, he could do better.

Any good coach will understand Woody did a poor job with a lot of resources, and they will assume they will do much, much better. Scott could also tell any worried candidates all the behind the scenes Woody horror stories that contributed to his termination.

I’m not worried about scaring off candidates. I am worried about how hard it is to get a coach to change jobs, but I think we will figure something out.

Damn man, now I will have nightmares tonight about that possibility!!

The announcer said that Woodson told him he had averaged 21 wins a season and the announcer's comment was "Evidently that isn't good enough for Indiana.".

No, it isn't, especially when Woodson stated that his temas would compete for BT and NCAA titles!
He hasn't really even sniffed one in four years.
That idiot wore me out in the first 5 minutes of the game. Admitted he hadn’t seen IU play. Claimed he went to the Washington team dinner “we put on” the night before. Had a severe bromance with Sprinkles or whatever that genius coach’s name was. And had the audacity to make fun of the candy stripes. “Can’t believe they are still wearing those!” Total jackass.

That would be a mistake. Who would want to work for a boss that would bad mouth an employee and share privileged info?
If a candidate was worried Scott could explain it diplomatically in high level terms in 60 seconds and it wouldn’t be an issue. It’s common for candidates taking any job to ask what happened with the previous guy.

15 seed?

I’m in my mid 30s… I’ll take it. Haven’t seen much better.
You just let the older adults on here set the standard.

Anybody who watched IU in its prime under Knight, they get to set the expectation level.
This ain’t it.

This excitement over sweating it out to be the last 4 in, that isn’t acceptable. Woody tried to tell us last year was “a good year.”

This is a primary reason he hasn’t been any good. He’s been willing to settle for just barely scraping by every season and then calling it good. The head coach sets the expectations.

Bob Knight was essentially fired over not making deep tournament runs back when making the tournament was a foregone conclusion. Today our chests puff out with pride thinking if we win 1 of our final two, along with a game in the BTT, we have a chance to make it in the tournament if we win a play-in game. Just getting in the NCAA tourney is our new mark of a successful season as Patrick and Tim laugh.
It shows how we have fallen.

Are folks really still worried that Woody might return if we make Dance? Folks, the NIL benefactors didn’t pony up 5 million for a 11-seed in Dayton. Woody told them he needed an open check book to compete for goals he listed himself at his introductory press conference- and guess what we are not competing for titles. Louisville happened.

My prediction. Woody makes a deep run (nothing to do with his coaching) decides to unretire and big money over rules Dolson again. Won't that be fun?

If there was any path for Woodson to "earn his job back" he would not have been forced to retire mid-season. They would have just let the season play out and then make a decision. Why would you introduce all that drama into the season if you weren't sure.

IU is 4-6 in their last 10 games, their are 11 teams that have done better in the BIG TEN than that! I did not make the statement that IU is the hottest team in the country! I know some are little slow on here, but 11 BT TEAMS have played better than IU in their last 10!

Your response to Bailey is classic. Try hard to understand.

We aren’t looking over the last ten games, just the last couple of weeks, which includes wins over Michigan State and Purdue.

Michigan ST. is 7-3 their last 10, blowout wins Purdue, Wisconsin, road blowouts at Illinois and Michigan and a very good win at Maryland. Michigan also has won 7 of their last 10. IU is 4 and 6 last 10, 2 nice wins, that's why they are closer to making the tournament! Cool the jets boys! Still have to make the tournament, a few games ago, it did not look like IU would even make the BTT. IU is not the hottest team in the country!

It. Was. Sarcasm.

Remember winning 5 in a row at the end of last season? That was during a historically bad season. Look back at the MW years and there are several times where it seems the wheels are about to totally fall off and the team flips that narrative.

Perhaps he’s elite at getting a dead cat bounce out of his players?

One of the more intriguing things to me is the durability of the retirement. I assume it’s all buttoned up and as contractually tight as can be. But, if it’s the forced retirement/firing that most of us assume, what if isn’t wasn’t set in concrete (legally speaking)?

You're 3rd paragraph is interesting. I doubt there's anything in writing. I suspect there's a verbal agreement that if he retires he'll get his $ up front v. how the contract provides. That would be the consideration for playing nice.

On the 'dead cat bounce' aspect of things....that is odd as hell. .I'm guessing that the players do like him and at some point in the year start to feel bad and embarrassed at the half-ass effort/results and simply play harder. Obviously this year the other factor is him finally giving up on Carlyle and the two-big plan.

One other thing....some late year wins fits Mike's NBA narrative that how you finish is all that counts.....

I said this team had a run in them and would make the NCAA. We’re looking better than we have all season. Finally get to start talking about “what seed will we be?” Good draw and we have the talent to make a second weekend run. IU!

March is so much better when we’re relevant.

Making it to the 2nd weekend doesn't qualify as a 'run'. It's more like a walk around the block. It's better than being an invalid but not by much.
