WVU: Film Room

Good breakdown of DeVries's offensive sets and philosophy.

I was all for McCollum to be the next coach, but did not know anything about DeVries. Since the hire I have looked at more interviews/commentary by DeVries and other coaches, and this breakdown of DeVries is basically the same coaching strategy McCollum has. If his coaching is all about player commitment to team and doing their job at both ends of the court, I am loving it. Bring the kids in that will bust their ass to bring the IU culture back to where it was before. Enjoy learning and playing, and maybe make a “little” more $ in the process. Obviously paying the “top” players that are only there for themselves isn’t working.

I don't remember who it was, but I heard an interview with a coach from a smaller southern school (I think) and he said he started asking kids or taking them by Waffle House. He said the kids who they got and were dogs always liked Waffle House and the ones who turned their noses up they never got, or they weren't the players they wanted. Actually said he had his assistants casually work it into the conversation and ask about Waffle House, because it was a small town and that was one of the only breakfast spots. Thought that was a pretty funny tell, I'd have never guessed at. Personally, I always thought I was a hustler on the court and I hate Waffle House. Not for the food, but to me it's the Walmart of restaurants.
