WTF is Kat Timpf?

She just had a baby and breast cancer was discovered during or after birth. She’s pretty much MAGA and hot. But no dyed blond hair. Yay!
Not MAGA. She's a libertarian and often argues against Trump policy and government intervention.

Binary thinking is the enemy of critical thinking. Once you pick your side, you don’t have to think because all the thinking has already been done for you, and that’s attractive in some ways. If all the thinking is already done for you, you just kind of go along with whatever your side is saying and then that’s it.

She’s MAGA on Gutfeld

Her job is eye candy and humor. She pretty good at both. But she’ll voice strong disagreements with Trump, like bombing Iran.
Trump doesn’t want to bomb Iran. I think he’s looking for every reason not to bomb Iran. I am afraid he’s going to do a deal (Iran won’t comply with) and declare victory. Bannon and those of his ilk will be thrilled.

She appears to have one of those dumb liberal arts degrees from a Christian college… and that’s it.

So she has no cred here. Move on.

Average SAT at Hillsdale is 1420 I believe.

Good reputation in the Midwest despite what some would call a conservative bent

“English” is not a liberal arts degree imo.

At least not in the sense that it has zero utility in the job market as liberal arts degrees have become synonymous with.

Sure. English degrees don’t cut it on the cooler unless they have the factor.

It’s a difference in kind. English majors at Hillsdale will read Dostoevsky, Tolstoy and Twain.

English majors at IU read who knows what kind of scary shit.

One leaves with knowledge, the other leaves with grievance.
Whatever you say…

And I’m married to an American Lit PhD from IU.

Not trying to be a dick... but outside academia, what doors does that open?
Adjunct to eventual faculty/professor. Or another masters or two that leads to another career path that pays more. Looks good on a resume either way.

Edit: Missed the outside academia. From my experience, good for technical writing, org development/training, and project management based on interviews and one previous job.

One of our software devs was a history major so who knows.

Edit: also good for college writing centers and Teaching/Learning depts.

Okay, so nothing outside academia.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a proponent of a liberal arts education, but the reality today is that such a degree doesn't do one much good in the "outside world." Which is sad. It wasn't always that way.

The liberal arts degree isn’t the problem necessarily.

It’s the people administering it. Majoring in the Classics would make you more informed than 95% of humans.

There is just a dearth, or maybe zero, professors that can teach the classics.

I edited my edit as you posted. Overall, yeah, she’s not afraid to admit the lack of opportunities outside of higher ed, which is why she got a masters in a more tech related field. She really likes teaching, and still adjuncts part time, but she wanted to make more money.

Are you talking about an undergrad degree in liberal arts or a graduate degree?

We've had this discussion before, but the notion that a liberal arts degree doesn't do one much good in the outside world is just false.

I'm talking a run of the mill BA. What kind of prospects does an English major or History major or Philosophy major have upon graduation? Employers want cogs they can plug directly into their machines.
