Wow!!! Steve Alford!!!…….

Mussleman averaged 27 wins a year at Nevada. I’m guessing another 17-16 season will find Coach Alford chasing 800 wins elsewhere.
17-16? You’d think Alford was 33-3 for someone to tout him as a serious candidate like that. But Bayern just loves ol Steve regardless of his less than stellar performance. Frankly, former IU players suck as basketball coaches. Knight had the chance with Painter, but 35 years later we struggle.

If You are thinking of adding Him into our Coaching Carousel, please don't go there. Two Words. Pierre Pierce. Poor judgment and showing total disrespect for Crime Victims, particularly victims of Sexual assault. Makes Chris Beard look like a Choirboy.

The second Alford chose to coach Iowa it was apparent he had no desire to coach at IU.

Bye. He’s been dead to me since before even Recker.

After not returning his calls requesting the coutesy of a job interview, I imagine Steve took the hint he needed to look elsewhere. That was probably an early red flag missed, indicating there is a missing link in the IU/IU Athletic Dept administrative abilities. It never made sense to me that they just ignored him during every head coaching search. Give him a courtesy interview just for the optics. Make it a short interview if you know you don’t want him. Make him think he’s in the running then don’t ever call him back if that’s the way you normally do things, just as a courtesy out of respect for his family ties. Is this current administration just as bull-headed into thinking Beard is to be branded for life, too? Who are really the ones scarred for life, having seen Knight’s branded butt “Zero Tolerance.” Is this all the same mindset keeping us down? Conservatives need to know.

Lord knows every coach IU has hired instead of Alford hasn’t been good enough either. He wouldn’t have been any worse…maybe better on name recognition alone. That “Alford” name would be two generations of favorable magnetic name recognition for Mid-west high school coaches and their players. Out West…New Mexico, CA and Nevada, he never got that extra benefit like he would have here. It’s something we’ll never know. Ain’t it a shame, not using his name! It might have been a much happier relationship than the ones we’ve had with our more holier, “better” coaches.

Requesting calls for a job interview?

RMK was still at IU when he went to Iowa.

When exactly was Alford trying to apply for the job?

Didn't Greenspan hold a grudge against Alford?

He could have applied a few different times but didn’t because IU never asked. He was “pierced” by the tainted blood of a rapist. Alford withheld judgement on Pierce before the verdict was final. Meanwhile, others had already hung Pierre Pierce. Was that so terrible to a man’s moral way of deeper thinking?

I never said hire the man, I said give the man an interview attempt. The rest is up to you.

So this is all conjecture. Cool.

Conjecture captures entertainment. Experimented Truth may not all be spoken here. Think of it as diversity in thought now praised. Ironically “cool” was once a cool term, heard today only in classic comedy’s and that rare snarky outburst sometimes seen on social media’s message boards as sarcastic wit run amok. Cool, man. Slide me some skin.

Actually, Sampson is ten times the coach Alford will ever be, so there was one coach who could deliver a superior product and was plenty good enough. He has a final four potential team every year with Houston.

As for the Alford name, which I presume this would lead to better talent, Alford had NBA talent at UCLA and still got fired because of inferior production. Alford would’ve been similar to Woodson, in terms of success, and I doubt he would’ve ever been able to do what Crean did by taking a decimated IU program and make them into B1G champs in 5 years.

Relax people it's not going to be Alford. That's so absurd it's comical.

On a sadder note, we’ll never know what either might have ultimately meant for IU’s athletic fortunes. One wasn’t given a chance, while the other took a chance. Isn’t life strange.

After Davis was fired he would have been a good pick. Water under the bridge. Ancient history.

There is video from his Iowa days saying he did not want to be Indiana's coach.

The internet has a long memory.

Have you considered Alford may have said it only after knowing he wasn’t being considered for the job?

The human brain digs deeper in the garden of insight.
