That show was so damn fun
My mind was blown when I learned that Jacob Snell is the same actor as Mother Superior in Trainspotting…and he’s Scottish.

And both characters occupying different places in the heroin supply chain, too.

Vote now all tied up. Big swing for the Yes votes. Patriotism making a come back!

@mcmurtry66 want to change your vote?
The thing about the vote, I think, is this: 100% of the people voting No can be counted on to actually be real Nos. I think maybe a tenth of the people voting Yes - if we are being extremely generous - would actually become a Yes if push came to shove.

No chance. Hell most would convince themselves that it was actually ok, since we're mostly all surely in the Trump approved demo. White, male, and wealthy (comparatively).

Exactly. A Trump dictatorship won't even be that threatening to most of us. Yeah, we'll have to be a little more cautious about our laughter at what stupid things they are doing, but it's not going to hurt us in any real way.

This whole idea that one should die for freedom or democracy or principle or some shit. Even the Founding Fathers didn't do that. They died because they thought taxes were too high. No chance we get that under a Trump monarchy.

Maybe on this board some might leave but it will never happen cause it wont.. If Trump wanted another term he would not of left the first time and risked losing again. He isn't taking a third term period. But it's fun to see where you will all move. Mostly Europe it seems. If it was me I'd go to a warm island myself.

That would have been a much better decision (except for the center of gravity part), than the 35hp out bored that a buddy donated. But that also, totally screwed up the center of gravity vrs the thrust.
When I said it was awesome, I really didn't mean in a successful way! Depending on how you measure success, of course. :)
Thank god that parts of the white river west fork, are only 6" deep in July. PARTS of it!
In the long tradition of going Completely off topic near the end of a thread:
I learned to water ski on White River up near Broad Ripple back in the "70's"... Long story, short version- I almost bought it on some RipRap (concrete and stone boulders) below the bridge...

The incredibly poor judgment involved in putting an inebriated 1st timer behind a boat doing 45, in a channel about 18 feet wide is something to be in Awe of...

We were all drinking, of course, and I was Fearless back then (translation: Stupid)... Ended up missing having dual compound spiral fractures by a couple of inches...

I did keep at it until I had actually learned to ski semi-proficiently however (more Stupidity)...., (the trick: don't try to pull yourself up out of the water and keep the slack out of the tow rope at all times, among other things)...; of course there was a beautiful girl in a bikini involved (which ratcheted up my ☠️Stupidity/Fearlessness ☠️ Level considerably.......) 🙈🙉😎🍺🇺🇸🍺

Sorry no pics... IPhones were not available back in the Cretaceous Period....

Way down yonder on the ole White River !! Oh the stories of semi-proficient debauchery, shenanigans and near death experiences we could share. I once had a very very small, 10' flat bottom boat only 48" wide. I strapped some 40hp super old 2 stroke outboard on the small gal. That engine leaked from every orifice. I'm making a high speed pass, past a group of my buds with basically nothing but the prop in the water. I was king shiot! Everyone on the bank was waving their arms, pointing and jumping up and down like Tom Cruise just won Daytona.
Then I turned around and there were ~3' flames coming from the top of the gas tank on the outboard. I loved that boat but I had to bale out and she went down. Yes of course there were women involved, whom I still blame for most of the crap I did. :)

He lost but tried to change the results. How could anyone be certain that a guy like that wouldn't try to remain in office illegally again? However, he'd be 82 . . .

I can’t conceive of any circumstance or scenario where a post like this makes a lick of sense. Do you really wanna think that Trump is training a pretorian guard in some remote location? Or do you belive like others in this thread that a majority of people would approve?

I’m getting too old for this shit.

This is absolutely crazy talk. I can’t imagine what it would take for me to say something like this. I guess I underestimate how you think of me a the millions of others who voted for Trump.

1) never said this was in the realistic realm of possibility. I mean is it greater then 0%,.... But obviously very unlikely....

but when you have 52% of the country (and 41% of Republicans) thinking he'll attempt to, it's not really beyond discussion... And 45% of Republicans think he should serve a 3rd term

2) I don't believe most Trump voters on this board are comparable to Trump's hardcore base. Though we have a few.

Disagree with the point if you want, but it is valid.

However, he won’t remain in office after his term ends. No chance it would be allowed. IMO.

We will never find out if hes going to get a third term because he won’t survive that long. He’ll either get picked off by a Big Mac or another crazy conservative.

And another rant. I’m tired of taking political principles from things like “hard core base”. Even though many democrats think a senile Biden could have served a second term, I don’t see them as a hard core base. The people in such a so-called base are not a constant and are largely the product of different motivations.

What do you call the 45% of Republicans that think Trump should serve a 3rd term?

Have you seen DBM's posts over the last decade?

Section 1. No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice…

Elect
choose (someone) to hold public office or some other position by voting

————

Considering states were unable to keep Trump off the ballot, the first question seems to be whether or not he could be on ballots. I can envision about six members of SCOTUS taking the position that A XXII doesn’t prevent his appearance on ballots.

Furthermore, I can envision those same six using that definition of elect to set the unprecedented precedent of ruling A XXII unconstitutional insofar as it essentially stipulates that American citizens cannot vote for whomever they want. (Read the definition of elect carefully and you’ll see what I mean.)

For those who suggest that that’s the wrong definition of elect, I remind you that those six choose their whimsical definition, not you and I also remind you, Roe v. Wade….

One final point. Even if Trump is not on any given ballot, people have the option of writing in their candidate of choice.

So the question becomes, if Trump wins the electoral college through write-in votes, what next?

One final note, once upon a time said poster AlohaHoosier lost a certain wager that Trump would not get the RNC nomination. Doubters and skeptics beware…

One final comment: Once upon a time I flippantly stated “Good-bye Roe v. Wade,” after SCOTUS attained a 5-4 advantage. Goat and other liberal lawyers assured me that wasn’t possible if you studied the amendment. I did and the logic seemed flimsy and riddled with weaknesses. So if you’re not a lawyer here, STAY STRONG!

That was in 2016, and I didn't think a bombastic uncivil clown could win the primaries. I wildly underestimated the number of Republican voters (many of them former Democrats) that would vote for said bombastic uncivil clown. I didn't make that bet in 2024 - it's clear that the enthusiastic MAGA voters that voted in the Primaries wanted the guy to be their nominee. Disappointing, but not the shocker it was in 2016.

Exactly!

And now look at all the rational, intelligent posters, including sophisticated lawyers, pooh-poohing the notion he can do it next election… 🤩

Reminded of the classic SNL parody of Americans picking a president.

Trump doesn't have Brownshirts, and it would take something like that to pull it off. Also, the DOJ, DOD, FBI, and the courts would have to allow it to happen. It seems inconceivable, but I'm no longer surprised by anything he might try. He tried to overturn an election with a mob once, so...

The Proud Boys and Oath Keepers and the pardoned J6ers could become the private force that he would need, and the sycophants he's installed in the aforementioned agencies might just hesitate long enough to allow him to seize power.
Maybe next time time they will bring more weapons than bear spray and a single pistol. They might need more than that to fight the military. Because I am pretty sure they would get involved.

I thought all the liberals were leaving if Trump got a second term. Now it's if he gets a third term. Lol

They’ll leave when he gets his fifth term.

Then, they’ll really, really mean it. Not kidding. We’re definitely leaving this time. You can count on us. We’re not lying or fooling around. . . .

you do realize people threatening to leave happens on both sides when their side loses. Most don't follow through.

If that's the case maybe this third term concept is something to consider... 😉😎
