Woody pulling a Mike Davis?

The bonus likely moved him to top ten (maybe 7th or so) highest paid college basketball coaches.
I’ve gotta believe every single AD in the country is either pissed at Dolson of laughing their asses off at him. The pissy group would be the one’s whose coaches are walking into their offices demanding million dollar raises because “my team is ranked a helluva lot higher than 100 and look what Woodson got!” The laughing group would be everyone else. Such a moronic move. Only at good ol’ boy IU. 😡😡😡

It's actually a genius move. Now any potential coaching hire will look at what we pay for these results, just imagine what we'd pay someone who was actually winning?

If some on here are correct, and our program woes right now are mainly player-personnel related...then the staff needs to figure out how to convince multiple All B10 level perimeter players of that...and how their program will benefit them.

Although team makeup (aka lack of a shooter) is an issue, I don't think recruiting talent is the issue as this team is chalk full of it. The issue is we lack basic team fundamentals of the game. Our defenders are always out of position. Our post players never hedge on screens to allow our on-ball defenders a viable chance to defend their shooters or mitigate dribble drives off screens. Braden Smith would literally get a basic screen from Edey and be able to just drive to the basket. When a shot goes up, our team just watches the shot. They should be looking down to get their spot and fight for positioning. Its brutal to watch because this team has the ability to be much better than they are but for WHATEVER reason, they're playing off their individual talent alone.

Lastly, there is room to say that with proper technique/system in place, the team may even be able to help create more open shots which then could change our theory that we have no shooters. It's hard to know without seeing them being coached up. This is why it's hard to get excited about incoming recruits who are talented because that individual talent can be negated if they're not learning how to play together, correctly.

They're going to have to be quite a lot better at showing, explaining, and convincing top level perimeter players that they want them, that they need them, and how they're going to use them when they get to Bloomington.

"I don't care who on our roster comes back...I need ball players right now! You will help lead us back to where IU basketball belongs. And you'll basically be a hero in Indiana for it."

There are TONS of them out there. I watched the KU/TT game last night. The best player on the court was an unheralded transfer from Nevada to Texas Tech, that still has multiple years of eligibility left. Go find a couple of guys like him, and we're immediately back on the right track.
It's not mainly personnel related. It's mostly coaching. X's and O's as well as culture.

Kenya forgot to add,

"Yeah, we did a horrible job putting this roster together. We have so many gaps I don't even know where to start. Lack of ball handling, leadership, toughness, shooting etc. I'm supposed to be the star recruiter so much of the blame is on me. We'll lose half the roster after the season so it's rebuilding time again not that we ever built anything in the first place. So far we have one commitment for next season and he's likely another one and done and everyone knows, we've had very little success with these one and done kids but what the hell, we'll just keep on trying. The plan is to land 3-4 experienced and talented kids from the portal but don't ask me how the hell we're going to do that. That's up to Woody and he was in the NBA for 30 years so he knows more than all of you guys so just trust him. No worries , we'll be back!"
If we cant get oner the hump.

That’s our issue, we are not recruiting in a way to develop a program and culture. It’s a revolving door of players. One recruit coming in with possibly 7 scholarships open is not a good recipe
What the hell does Kenya or Ya bring to the sideline though? lol . Just like the HC & the guards, the assistant coaches on staff are also bottoms in the B1G.

What did Mike Davis bring to Bob Knight's sideline?
A pipeline for kids like Jeff Newton, AJ Moye, Kei Madison recruitment that never worked out. Had DJ White connection there started as well. He brought another lifeline from the south for Coach and his half ass attempts to recruit like he used to. I feel he did more for Coach Knight then both Ya and Hunter. I know i'm missing a name or two.

IU knows how to hire them: Jesus. Sampson is the only coach post RMK to do anything after IU.
Lol. When they leave it’s not even mediocre, it’s pretty darn bad.

Whenever Woody goes he’ll just be retired. If he hypothetically wanted another college coaching job I don’t think anyone remotely good would be interested.

IUBB is so poorly run I can never completely wrap my head around it.

Retirement time is NOW Mike!

George Leach. Hornsby?

Yes, Davis was a really good assistant coach and recruiter. Plus, he understood real defense.

He might’ve. But like ol’ Woody, it seems he’s fading fast. He honestly is 0-26 this year. How on earth haven’t they changed his key card to the gym by now?

Just for fun, let’s say our two favorite Mikes traded places. What would their respective records be at this point in the season?

He was a terrible coach of offense.

most guys on that team in 2002 were recruited by davis including the two mentioned, newton, perry, moye, and even jared. Without davis knight likely does not land those guys.

A helluva lot more than these dudes. Low bar, for sure.
I have no idea how he has not won a game this year. I was huge davis guy at iu early on and I still see no way team simply made the last game without any coaching. He had to have been putting in a system to make them win. They simply did not have enough talent to win without coaching they were mostly slow dudes who could hit outside shots.
