Brian Evans was on with JMV yesterday and made the point I hadn't seen discussed here. If Woodson is retiring - like the memo from Dolson said - why on earth would he be entitled to the additional $8M? Evans obviously no fan of Woodson, but I think that's a fair question. So is he fired or retired?

Another story that Evans told was about Kirk Haston coming back to Assembly Hall for a game during Woodson's first year. He's only been to a couple games since he graduated and had his son with him. Dane Fife alerted Woodson that a distinguished alum was back for the first time in years and said it'd be nice if Woodson went over and greeted him before the game. He flatly refused. Total DB move.

Because he was fired, retiring was a way for everyone to save face, if you think he is leaving on his own you live in lucy land

damn I hope the Haston story isn't true. Always liked Kirk. Went thru hell when his mom was killed in a tornado during his early yrs at IU. Hard worker, developed his game, never flashy, no showboat bullshit, very lunch-pail type of guy. A lost breed today.

If that story is false, then screw Fife forever. But if it's true, then screw Woody.

Can’t imagine Fife just pulling a story like this out of his rear.

Mike has a contract that specifies what he gets if he is fired — it’s his whole remaining contract ($8.4M) paid $1M/yr.

It’s being called a retirement to allow him to save face, but in reality he was fired.
Then basically, as Evans stated it, the whole thing is a boldfaced lie to protect Woody’s precious feelings.

Do you really believe Fife is lying about it?

I don’t think that for a second. And I don’t believe everyone saves face. Woodson - yes. Buckner - yes. Dolson - not so much.
Dolson gets to move forward with his important work instead of dealing with the pushback (there would be some) over IU firing one of its own from one of the most visible positions in the university. I don't know if that's face-saving but it's less controversial than a public firing.

Just remember Mike Woodson does not come to you. You have to go to Mile Woodson.

Why in the world would he make it up? Plenty of info has been around the last few years basically confirming this is how woodson operates. Its par for the course with him. He could not even remember recruits names and blew them off.
what are talking about didn't know a recruit's name?

Yeah, Haston couldn’t. But I don’t think there’s a world where Fife just makes a story like that up to tell Evans.
Well he could easily verify if Woodson actually came over to introduce/talk to him and the family before the game. That would not verify if he knew and Fife let him know, but it could show if he did or did not reach out at that time

yeah I misread. Haston might not have even been aware Fife mentioned it to CMW.
but he probably is now.

Honestly Fife should just pocket these stories. Woody is done, we're about to move on .
It was a story he told to Evans (on a private phone call) the day after he was fired. Woody was just getting started tearing the heart out of his supposedly beloved university. The same one that has given him a life of fame and fortune. And the same one he’ll take every single dollar he can get from them.

Right. He didn’t.

cannot wait for April and beyond when we can turn the page...again.

Watching current IU games, I've gone from mild apathy to genuine "I don't even care now, none of this matters in a few weeks anyways. Why are we even playing out the season? " Lame duck end to another sad chapter.

We'll see what the new coaching search brings us once the lame duck session is over.

out of all the bullshit we have watched the last 30 years, Hastongate seems to be getting a lot of attention

Your tax $$$ at work folks.

Do a shitty job, waste a bunch of NIL money, take no responsibility, and only give 50% (at best) while on the job, and get more than $ 8million for "retiring".
This is worse than giving kids a trophy for participating. This is rewarding failure.

Right and not like I know anything about it but there are many reasons why the head coach might not have had time for a pre-game chit-chat with someone. Another asssistant could have brought an issue to him that he needed to deal with and then he forgot, or ran out of time. We don't know, Fife doesn't necessarily know.

Once again we are taking hearsay from a story told on a podcast and treating it like sworn testimony.
