Women’s taking it to #8 Ohio St

Had a good lead, OSU tied up off of some sloppy play, timeout, now playing better. 40-28 as I post this.

Big resume win. Moore-McNeal and Ciezki both played with four fouls in the 4th with that quarter pretty much a wash scoring -wise before a late push by OSU, with Moore-McNeal eventually fouling out. Parrish had 16 points, Garzon with 16 points, Ciezki having 16 points, and Striplin with 11 points. IU outrebounded OSU 34 to 20. OSU with their pressure defense got IU to turn the ball over 21 times while they had 10 turnovers. IU had 21 assists to just 6 for OSU.

Here's the box score:

Currently up 37-28 shooting 71% from 3 with 2 minutes to go in 1st half

Nice win for the ladies tonight.

I took a look at the #s for this team v. the #s for the last two years. Here's what I found, which just confirms what you would expect.

The defensive #s are vey good and basically the same as the last 2 years.

The difference between this year and the last 2 is that we score 10 points fewer per game.

Our 3 point shooting is not as good as last year (.367 v .396) but nearly identical to 2022-23.

Where we've really dropped off is in 2 point shooting %, which is 5 % points worse than the last two years. We also get 3 fewer rebounds. have 2 fewer assists, and have 2 more TOs.

I suspect that a majority of the rebound differential is offensive rebounds. I also think the assist # is lower mostly because we don't have Holmes to throw the ball to.

My guess is that 90% of our "problems" relate to missing Holmes. If she was still playing our 2 and 3 pt %s would be higher, and we'd have a few more assists. As an example, Berger's assist rate when she played was higher than CMM, but in her absence we still had 2 more assists per game last year v. this year. I do think we also miss Berger also because CMM is just not quite as careful with the ball as Grace, but I don't think that's as significant.
