Of course many have broken the rules and gotten away with it.....some programs are bullet-;proof. IU, however, isn't one of them. IU fell on the sword and was rewarded with a near death experience from the NCAA for their troubles. Its not about being holier than thou for IU....Its about never going through the NCAA's gulag again. From that vantage point....I agree.
The NCAA barely punished us. Certainly nothing akin to the death penalty. We just flushed the roster of all of the diarrhea Dakich left behind.

Kind of like the way McCullum is being talked up now like the next sure cannot miss guy. Just ignore the fact he only has one year of D1 experience at a lower level D1 school. He will totally come to IU and just kill it just like Archie was supposed to do.
Yeah this is very exciting. I could not be happier right now.
Even you once “couldn’t be happier” at the signing of Archie!

Yeah, it amazes me how hindsight clouds the memory that Archie was one of, if not the, hottest names when we got him. Sure hindsight plays a role in the narrative, but at the time the hire was universally praised. Now it is morphed into the idea that every hiring cycle has been thwarted by a group of anonymous goody two shoes. In reality, we’ve had bad luck making the right picks, but it hasn’t been due to some systemic failure. The only real systemic failure was allowing Buckner to lean way too heavily on the woody hire.

Dolson was in the middle of sh7tting the bed on this deal in 2021. Buckner stepped in and did his buddy a solid. Hopefully much was learned.

Inarguably that was a cluster f***. They thought they had Stevens, then Matta (which wasn’t a slam dunk plan B), and then Woody was shoe horned in at the 11th hour with Buckner taking advantage of the chaos. Not a good reflection on that one, but I still think the level of hopelessness from our fan base is a bit over the top.

It’s been a couple months since Woody said he was retiring. They’ve had plenty of time for the process this time.

I’m sure they knew they were firing Archie, but they couldn’t start seriously looking at replacements in January or February.
