Why not Brad Brownell?

From Evansville. Built up Clemson, a little slowly though. Thoughts?
Because if he wasn’t from Evansville, we would be outraged at the hire. Good coach and from the word of mutual friends is one hell of a guy. It took him 8 years to have a season of note, and even after that he sandwiched the Covid season with years 1 game above .500. His best season finish is 3rd in the ACC, and he only has 2 seasons reaching the sweet 16.

Fair points. I just think most fans (including myself) are delusional thinking Stevens, Pearl, Oats, May, Oltz, or Beard would leave. I hope I am wrong, but I think we will be choosing from solid to decent coaches, but IU is not special enough for any of those top guys to leave.

Beard is the only one who may consider it, but I think Ole Miss has the money to keep him, plus the SEC is the premier bball conference.

IDK if he's the answer or not. But I think we will not get any of the fans top 5 choices.

1 EE and 1 SS at a football school. I put him behind Mick Cronin and Dusty.

IU wouldn't consider Pat Fitzgerald for football. The Beard stuff isn't happening.

I agree with you on the allure. I saw someone mention that we should get Pearl and let May prove himself in UM for the next opening and I couldn’t help but laugh at the audacity of that statement. I think it comes down to May, Cronin, or Beard with the potential for a McCollum or Devries to sneak in there.

Beard is never happening. How hard is that to grasp.

Maybe if you tell us why or how you know, people might grasp it. But a poster just saying it means little. Anyone can talk out their ass.

And how do you know more than Goidman?

Boosters wanted Pat Fitzgerald to be heavily considered for football. President vetoed it. Read the police report of the Beard assault on his girlfriend. Much of it is online. He will not be considered.

So you are basing it not on Beard but on IU. I'm not so sure. I know for a fact Whitten loves sports, and loves winning. Second chances in life are allowed. Even at IU.

Beard has made it clear he wants the job. Goodman is an idiot who has no knowledge of how Dolson or Whiten think. He may not even know who Whiten is.

Nobody knows that. How do you?
Name an IU coach that was hired after Sampson that has baggage. It doesn't happen. Wilson was fired partly for those reasons. That's why they had Woodson announce now. Background checks are starting now. They can talk to coaches agents and figure this out now.

Maybe not. But if Whitten wants Beard, IU will have Beard. She is the new sheriff after the Cig hire, which she influenced quite a bit.

Nothing to do with Beard. Whiten and trustees no way with his issues. You only believe in second chances if you value money more than integrity. That's not IU.

It's Dolson's hire. He recommended Cig. She will just approve. Cook people wanted Dolson to consider Fitzgerald. She said no. Cook people came up with the money Cig wanted for NIL.

Doesn’t really matter. If he is hired, you're wrong. If not, we will never know the reason, only speculation.

I was high on Fitz for the football gig. I’m high on Beard for this hoops gig at top my list. Hope it happens. I’m doubtful it does.

If not Beard, then I certainly like the next line guys of: McCasland from TT, Golden from Fla (who also has recent baggage he’s been cleared of, but if any validity, seems worse than Fitz or Beard), Collins, Brownell, Shrews.

Would love Otzelberger, but buyout of $18 million seems unlikely. Don’t know enough about DeVries at WVU, or his successor at Drake, McCollum.

Sounds defeatist to me. I want an IU coach who can win a title. Period. We've spent 25 years messing with coaches who cant.

None of those top 5 or 6 six have won a D1 title. And they can win a title at their current schools, sans Stevens. Heck, one of them just might do it this year and then no way he comes. We are almost 40 years from our last title and no longer significant. Sad, but true.

My exact thought was Tubby Smith has more titles than that list. What we need is a coach that consistently gets us at bats to hopefully get hot and make a run. If Beard’s team hadn’t gotten hot en route to a runner up we probably wouldn’t be that excited over his general record. He has less than 20 wins in more than half of his seasons and that includes at lower levels. He’s a good coach, but I also think that his perceived dominance is overblown.
