Why is Brad Stevens trending on Twitter?

If you lay out your offer and it takes a candidate 2 weeks to decide, that ain't the right person.
I don't buy that at all. It's not like he applied for the job. The offer, if it happened, came from IU. Since he has a great job and important family considerations. He also has to weigh the upcoming change in Celtic ownership and what the means for him. I can see the value in Dolson giving him time to consider it. It's actually very smart people of him.

ok I'll play along just for logic's sake...with the preface that I don't believe one bit of this.

Best guess would be the candidate needs some time to think, discuss, another family vote coming. Might take some time to really think it thru since it's a big decision.

So...offerer says "yeah sure, understood. We don't need an answer asap. But really do need a decision w/in 2 weeks, because if you say no, we're going after Dusty before UM locks him down with an extension before the B1G tourney in Indy" (UM does not want any Dusty coaching drama following them into March).

That would be my best guess, if ANY of this were actually true. Again....I'm not buying any of it. Just bored, as the rest of this season is now lame duck meaningless noise.

I've said for couple yrs, this ship sailed long ago. But we're a desperate lot, and desperation spawns gullibility. And visa versa.

My money is on May or Beard. But I don't gamble, so what do I know?

It's not like Dolson kidnapped him and forced him to listen to his pitch with no prior consideration. Before you even agree to talk to, or meet with anyone from IU, you would've consulted with your wife and had discussions about if it makes sense, or is something you should even consider. Yes, there are lots of considerations, but I just don't believe it takes 2 weeks to wade through them. Brad knows all about what it means to be the IU coach, and can easily compare the implications to his life. I don't believe this is what happened, but if it is, it's too long and too desperate.

Yeah, my thought was that you have a deadline in mind (no longer than 2 weeks), and then I'd put it to him: "how much time do you need to decide?" Gives you a bit more info and why give him 2 weeks if he sayd he needs 2-3 days?

I agree with you, it's not happened, nor is it happening, but if there's already a 2 week timeline, then they should've met and presented him the offer.

This describes me perfectly.

Hope is the last to die.
me too...was reading these rumors yesterday, could feel my pulse increase by the minute (something IU bball hasn't done to me for a long time), then pulled back and said 'idiot....dont' fall for this shit yet AGAIN'. Celts probably prepared to make Brad the King of Martha's VIneyard to keep him on the east coast. He's not leaving.

Tell me more about what it mean's to be the King of Martha's Vineyard?

hell I don't even know...just made it up for affect. maybe even more powerful, richer than you already are. Could live in a castle between the Obamas and the Kennedy compound, with your own private helicopter and a heli-pad on roof of the Celts corp HQ.

You know impetus for this rumor was the statement from insiders that Dolson has his man and it is someone not currently coaching college basketball. If that part is actually true, I think we should be very concerned…
I think the opposite.

There is a rumor that Brad Stevens is in Bloomington looking at horse farms. There is confirmation that Billy Donovan is accompanying him on this trip. I heard it from my sister's husband's friend's girlfriend. There will be announcement by Tuesday 2/18.

Maybe Stevens is going to be the new IU GM and Donovan head coach.

the guys on BTB are way further down the well on this that we are. To the point of flight trackers and connecting dots, coming up with assumed meetings with agent(s), etc..... Crazy. May be best to just get off these boards for a few weeks until this nonsense goes away. There will once again be some very disappointed people, very soon. As I said when someone mentioned hiring another former IU player (Alford)....did we learn nothing over the past 4 yrs?

Red warned Andy...."Hope...is a dangerous thing. Can drive a man insane."

Roadtozion saying it is done. He is “usually” correct.

And this whole "family vote" thing that showed up this AM...I've now seen this in three places. Just another bit of BS that gets repeated over and over until everyone accepts it as gospel because "they've seen it everywhere." As if Brad Stevens is going to announce that they had a family vote and he was the only one who wanted to leave the Celtics. It's ludicrous.

Are you sure about that? The hire before AM was Tom Crean. I don't remember any smoke about BD when Crean was hired. I have only been at my current job ~10 years and I distinctly remember talking to a guy here at work about the BD situation.
Yes. He was made fun of relentlessly for it.

I heard they changed the date to 2/29

If Stevens needs two weeks to decide if he wants the job then he shouldn’t be hired. IU needs a coach who is enthusiastic and wants to be here.

That being said, I will believe Stevens is the coach when I see him pacing the sideline in Assembly Hall.

More Brad Stevens threads will help us navigate through this difficult period.

That Celtics press conference when his daughter gets the last question-Who is your favorite child? Convinced me beyond doubt that this is a match made in Heaven. On top of it all just a good person that even satisfies the fire and brimstone crowd as well as the rest of us.

yeah they are really setting themselves up for massive disappointment. AGAIN. Either that or they are way ahead of the curve on this vs all of us. But I'm not believing anything until I see noise from places other than free message boards. So far it's just chatter from dorks like us with nothing better to do on a Friday.

they are averaging a new page on that thread every 5 minutes.

It was "done" four years ago too. Until it wasn't.

It's easy to make claims like this. If it happens you look like you're in insider. When it doesn't, you can just claim that you were right at the time but "things changed."

We've all seen this show before.

What are they saying on the UNC board?

guess I'm taking the opposite approach. If (when) it doesn't happen, I can say see, told ya.
If it did happen...hey I'd be more than glad to be wrong about that.

win/win

Ha ha. Well yeah. I'd love to be wrong on this. But those who are wrong never admit it. They were right all along. Until that one thing happened.

We need to keep positive attitudes like the guy that wakes up in the ICU with tubes everywhere. A pretty nurse is looking seriously at him and she says-You will not be able to feel anything from the waist down. He says-Can I feel your boobs then.

Keep it positive and good things will happen. We are in the ICU of basketball right now.
