Who's the mole?

Maybe it's something about politics sucking your soul from you while playing music recharges your soul...

I've suspected it is the drugs, if they don't kill the musicians right away it gives them more power. Though recently I heard David Crosby say he just cannot tour anymore. And not just because everyone he might tour with hates him, but his body can't do it. So there are limits even with the number of drugs he took.

Hasn't he had a liver transplant and other major surgeries? He's never really looked like a healthy guy - I'm guessing he's probably not really able to go too far beyond his doctors and medications keeping him alive.

I do think diet and exercise play a part. Back in the 90s, I read somewhere that Mick Jagger was working out and running 5 miles a day. A lot of those guys are vegetarian too.

Mick has always put on a heck of a show. I have no doubt he is in as good of shape as anyone. It might be why drummers seem to die earlier.

Suite: Judy [Collins] Blue Eyes performed a few weeks ago at Newport. Pretty courageous, as she's in rough shape.

I agree. I haven't seen the Stones since their VooDoo Lounge tour (1995), but that was great. Even then, people were asking how long they could keep this up. Mick is still 'only' 79, but I can't imagine anyone thought they'd still be touring 30 years ago.

I think the famous rock drummers I can think of that died young either died due to drug accidents/overdoses or terrible accidents. John Bonham and Keith Moon come to mind. Dennis Wilson was probably the most 'in-shape' and healthiest Beach Boy, but he down, IIRC.

EDIT to add: Ringo probably should have died really young even before he really learned how to play the drums. He was sick a lot as a kid and had multiple surgeries growing up. He actually started playing drums during an extended stay in the hospital. That said, he gave up drinking and drugs in the late 70s/early 80s and will probably be him and Keith Richards outliving all those famous rockers.

Dennis Wilson drowned. Carl died of cancer. Brian, who's battled mental health issues his whole life, is still kicking at 80, I think.

Recently saw Rod Stewart , and at 77 he still moves pretty well. Also saw Stevie Nicks , and she is 74. Still wears high hells and moves quite a bit. But at one point we were worried she might be having a stroke on stage. That’s what happens when you see a bunch of old folks . ( and they cancel on you too)

I played soccer with rod stewart a few times. super nice guy. he used to play regularly in a pickup game on tuesday nights with a bunch of randos. he was probably mid 50s then and in really good shape

Well that’s a claim to fame! He still kicks around the ball onstage a bit.

I think a lot of wellknown performers don't do as much alcohol and drugs as they want you to think.

Cheech Marin said once that he and Tommy Chong didn't do drugs at all, even though that's all they joked about in their act. He said they would rent a gym while on tour and play basketball.

I don't think Jagger does much drugs. I saw him say in an interview that he was running 7 miles per day.

Wasn't he a professional player for awhile?

No I think he just played schoolboy and then tried out for one of the lower divisions and didn't get picked up. He was definitely a huge soccer nut though. It was definitely cool when he'd show up though because it was just a random public park down the street from my work. what's funny though is that he'd be super dressed up like he was going to play in the world cup. socks up to his knees and brand new and all that lol

in the spring of 2018 I was in Dublin, Ireland and Rod Stewart walked past me in the hotel where I was staying. He walked in with two other guys and for a split second I didn't say anything until he passed by. I looked at another guy in the lobby and said, "Was that...?" I didn't finish and the other guy said, "Yes. yes it was."

I was waiting for a cab to go grab a bite to eat. Before the cab got there I talked with the concierge and he told me Rod has a flat near by and likes to come into the hotel bar from time to time to have a drink. It was a posh, upscale hotel with a pretty nice bar and the concierge said he sort of knows when to come in when he won't be bothered. He said he usually comes in for a drink or two then leaves. He said one time he sat at the grand piano in the lobby and played a few random tunes to about 10 people walking through.

The concierge kind of gave me the impression that he'd probably leave quickly if I went to the bar, so I kept my dinner plans.

Oh that's awesome!

He's old. He's 81.

He hasn't been doing cardio like Jagger all these years.
