I absolutely believe this is true. Just odd that he won't come out and say he is not a candidate.
Stevens is the type of person that nearly always says and does the "right" thing. Very thoughtful, mindful, methodical... I've tried applying that to his response to Fof68...and then why he didn't specifically say he's not considering the job... and then just in general, why he hasn't shot it down. Is there some sort of benefit, to he, to Boston, and/or to IU, to not directly respond? Maybe that's the only time he's been directly asked about it recently??

I agree that what BS said is borderline vague and elusive. What did he say 4 years ago? I can't remember the exact words but I remember thinking " He is NOT coming to coach IU". This time, his statement (if you will) is quite a bit different and is not nearly the "Hard No" that I remember last time. I still only give it 10% chance of happening, but it IS a little odd, all things considered.

4 years ago he seemed flattered and showed genuine interest. Then one day the I'm a 44 year old masshole comment was made and it was over.

This is some deep diving psychological chit here...

When someone isn't interested in something, they know they're not interested in it, there's really no real chance, worry, concern that talking about "it" will mess something up...then they're often more forthcoming and speak in more positive terms towards "it". That tracks with where Stevens was 4 years ago, maybe? All we know is that he engaged with Dolson, talked about the job, etc... There are various rumors about him wanting to do it, but his family not... but I think once you get past he and Dolson talked... its all conjecture. Maybe he was just being nice, and that's why he actually engaged with Dolson??

If they're seriously considering it though... and they're someone like Stevens that knows how lots of people are hanging on his every word regarding the IU job, and understands the ramifications, that IU still has a coach, all of that... he might be the type that would then be pretty tight lipped about it all? In fact, he might be the exact type of guy that would answer a question about IU, with how happy he is in Boston, and how much he loves his coworkers.

When Brad said he wasn’t a candidate, it was a tactful way to let IU save face. If he had simply said, once again, “I’m not interested,” it would have been a more direct rejection and an embarrassment for IU.

I’m sticking with the coach named “other”
Haven’t seen or heard anything about him, so there must be something about him that he makes the list. I’m praying he’s the answer to everything.
Other doesn't believe in NIL, though, so that's going to be a deal breaker for IU, I would have to believe. We'll see
