Who hates McRobbie!!!!!!!

Crimson Quarry made mention that McRobbie has taken money from the Big Ten network to use for other projects besides building an exclusive Dorm for the basketball players and some new football practice facility, I don't know their sources just what they said over there.........if so that is total bulls--t.

You know you guys can laugh at me all you want, but if it weren't for Basketball how well known would Butler and Gonzaga be from a national spotlight. Butler has even admitted that when Brad Stevens had them rolling their applications soared. So shut up.

It's almost as though he thinks a university's main focus should be on academics. Crazy, I know.

Believe it or not, the university president better have a vested interest in the success of the sports at his school. More and more evidence shows that undergrad enrollment at schools increase when the sports programs are doing well.

I don't dispute that, hence the use of the phrase "main focus" in my post. Getting upset that the leader of the university is using most of that school's resources to improve the academics and update facilities seems ridiculous to me, though. Especially since there has been money being spent the past few years to improve many of the sport facilities, as well. Updating the the school facilities that all the students and professors can use can increase enrollment as well as draw in better professors. A university's first priority should always be academics, that's the whole point of it existing. This should be obvious but I guess it isn't for some.

That’s money for you. When the cigarette companies were sued for billions of dollars, the money was meant to help fight smoking and w health issues. The moment the $$$ rolled in it was eaten up to pay off deficits, pet progtams and other such stuff. Teen smoking and health issues were ignored and the answer to that was to tax the hell out of cigarettes.

IU needs a balance between improving Academics for future students, and realizing that Athletics provides national name recognition and with success, fame, fortune, and increased enrollment. The whole university benefits when Athletics are successful, especially Basketball and Football, the big two revenue generating sports.

Have never met the man so I don't know how I could hate him. I don't like the fact that he has brought ion more east coast students over bringing in more Indiana kids.

The "East coast students" earned their way in by being better applicants than the Indiana kids.

You live a sheltered life Scott. If you want IU - Bloomington to fall the way of some directional shit school, by all means let's insulate ourselves and cater to Indiana residents.

If you want it to be a world class university then stfu.

The undergrad population is still something like 70% Indiana and Chicago area kids, so leave your know nothing nonsense at the door.

There are a lot of top Indiana academic HS students. IU needs to market itself better within the state. I know several high level academic students in Indiana that are leaving the state or not enrolling at IU but going to another in-state university for Pre-Med, Law, and Engineering.

The IU Football program being very unsuccessful for most of the last 50 years has hurt IU financially.

How many more students could IU fit onto the Bton campus? Isn't it up to like 42k?

When I went there it was more like 32k and I don't believe they have added that many dorms. I have no idea about off campus housing.

Thank you for your anecdotal sample of college students.

But that was a non-reply, reply to my original post.

Do you think there are students who go to High School in Indiana that are unaware IU exists? What are you talking about market better?

Should we be coercing these students into coming to IU, if they're better of in Mendoza or Purdue's College of Engineering?

If they choose a school better suited for them for whatever reason, good for them.

Or are you like Scott and worried about the influx of "East Coasters", infiltrating and destroying IU - Bloomington from the inside?

This is a ridiculous argument. Did you actually read the article? He's made tremendous improvements across campus to invest in its future graduates heading into the real world. Fred Glass and company have had big time donors that are willing to invest in the future of athletics. We have all kinds of new renovations and facilities across all sports. This argument would have made sense 12 years ago.

Edit: Crimson Quarry is a rag to froth up people like you for clicks.

Yes, a university president should be focused on academics first BUT they should not be hostile towards athletics and the school should not put needless roadblocks in the way that make its sports teams operate at a comparative disadvantage. There is a financial windfall to be had with successful athletics programs and IU flat out refuses to acknowledge this. Either give athletics the support it needs or drop sports altogether. McRobbie only tolerates athletics insofar as it is required to be a member of the Big Ten conference.

Plenty of university presidents understand the value of athletics while also making academic improvements. It is not an either/or scenario.

Yet he has allowed the athletic department to spend millions of dollars since he has been here for rennovations

Wow, so has every other school and to a much greater extent. IU’s facilities aren’t even as good as Purdue’s or Minnesota’s.

You was making it sound like he doesn't let IU athletics do anything so I was correcting you. so what other facilities upgrades that you think should happen that haven't yet

I think we should make all the students from East of Ohio walk around with the letter E on their shirts.

That way we know they're not from here.

Kick ass dorm for our college basketball players so they can play Fortnight on a 100” Tv and have a personal hair stylist come in and take care of their stupid haircuts!!

Tome it looks like they have all of that in their new locker rooms and suite

It took until late 2018 to give the premier sports team at IU a non-embarrassing locker room. Think about that. And it still lacks the amenities of blueblood facilities. Look at what Kansas and Carolina have. Blows IU out of the water. Kansas also has luxurious players dorms.

Why do you think that these superficial items have anything to do with the performance of the team? By the way, you left out massages, etc.. Which of your favored programs have those?

So it is just a coincidence that the blueblood programs have the best facilities? Top facilties reflect a commitment to winning.
