Juergen Sommer.Mason Toye has been good, Roman Celentano off to a nice start to his career, but thinking about the answer, it's gotta be Zavaleta, Gutman, or Morris right?
Wow, great pull. I hadn't heard of him before but you're absolutely right. First American to play in the prem - paved the way for so many other guysJuergen Sommer.
The great Angelo dibernardo. Played for the New York cosmos with so many legendsWow, great pull. I hadn't heard of him before but you're absolutely right. First American to play in the prem - paved the way for so many other guys
Another great pull!!!! Also made 20 caps for USMNT. Wild. Never knew these guys existed - thank you for broadening my knowledgeThe great Angelo dibernardo. Played for the New York cosmos with so many legends
Great pull as well! Loooong career with the Columbus Crew and 13 caps for USMNT. Love it!How about Brian Maisonnueve-played at IU with Todd Yeagley in early 90s. Mais was a national team guy and played in the '96 Olympics and '98 World Cup for team USA. Now the head coach at Ohio State.
It's true. IU Soccer really sets up people for success whether you're on the pitch or in the officesPlenty of former Hoosiers are in the pro ranks as coaches or GMs as well. Pat Noonan, Caleb Porter, Chris Klein, Ned Graveboy just off the top off my head.
Deering definately counts-he was a World Cup player. Will Bruin is worth a mention. Tommy Thompson for sheer longevity. Does Chad Deering count?
You're talking to a real old timer, there, Evan. Boomers still are useful in some areas.Another great pull!!!! Also made 20 caps for USMNT. Wild. Never knew these guys existed - thank you for broadening my knowledge
@mcmurtry66 how old did you feel reading this? You're talking to a real old timer, there, Evan. Boomers still are useful in some areas.

Dude I know a ton of guys from the early 80s teams before sommer. Not. Good.
Slu has the most championshipsI guess this question is harder than I anticipated when the soccer program has (literally) the greatest history in the entire country - lol

It's true but they've been around longer. Since IU soccer was created, no program has more (insert any accolade/trophy of your choosing here)Slu has the most championships

Yes! I'm part of the Hoosier Huddle team that came in recently. Big soccer fan myself so I'm excited to chat about all things IUMS and IUWS (and soccer across the world). Let's revive this board!Nice to see the Soccer Board coming to life here! It's often a lonely place-even in season.
Evan-are you a new staff member?
Do you have the power to start a pickle ball board?Yes! I'm part of the Hoosier Huddle team that came in recently. Big soccer fan myself so I'm excited to chat about all things IUMS and IUWS (and soccer across the world). Let's revive this board!
Haha, how serious is this request? If there's a serious pickle ball fandom in this community we can consider 🤣 but probably a place in AOTF at leastDo you have the power to start a pickle ball board?
Welcome! And that's great to hear we have another soccer guy. Not much doing in IUMS this time of year. They do play a spring season, but IU doesn't even publish scores.Yes! Yeah I wish there was more insight for the spring, I agree. But thank you! Excited to talk all things IU sports, but would love for soccer to get the love it's due as well. Much more to comeWelcome! And that's great to hear we have another soccer guy. Not much doing in IUMS this time of year. They do play a spring season, but IU doesn't even publish scores.
They're charging for it this year. I've never been, but I don't remember it being promoted as needing a ticket. EVen Indy 11 sent an email out about it.IU plays Notre Dame this evening at Grand Park/Westfield, which is the traditional marquee match-up of the spring season. I attended a few years ago and the attendance was incredible.
Jerry’s first big superstar.Armando Betancourt was a great player too.
Did you go? I couldn't find any coverage from either school. They're charging for it this year. I've never been, but I don't remember it being promoted as needing a ticket. EVen Indy 11 sent an email out about it.
I didn't...and the lack of coverage has been the norm over at least the past two springs. It seems intentional, since both schools (regardless of opponent) keep quiet about it.Did you go? I couldn't find any coverage from either school.
I just ran into Jack Wagoner and he said IU won 2-0 and controlled the game. Said there are so many spots up for grabs right now that guys are really hungry and working hard.Did you go? I couldn't find any coverage from either school.
Good to hear. IU graduated a lot of talent last year, so some underclassmen/transfers are really going to have to produce this fall.I just ran into Jack Wagoner and he said IU won 2-0 and controlled the game. Said there are so many spots up for grabs right now that guys are really hungry and working hard.
Agreed with GeddyHoosier - good to hear indeed. Let's make another run this year and get another star!I just ran into Jack Wagoner and he said IU won 2-0 and controlled the game. Said there are so many spots up for grabs right now that guys are really hungry and working hard.
I hope so, but I'm worried the program is heading the other direction. The last 2 Hoosier squads have had little to no offensive firepower. I'm not sure where the scoring will come from this year-unless a freshman/transfer steps up. Overall, it just seems like talent level has dipped a bit in the last few years: plenty of good players, but no Bezerra, Gutman, or Celentano superstar types.Agreed with GeddyHoosier - good to hear indeed. Let's make another run this year and get another star!
