When did we last beat a top 10 team at their place?

2013 @ MSU.

If you recall, that was the game that VO got the steal late that sealed the win.

The last time we did it as an unranked team was in 1982! This is Archie's first big win.

I stand corrected. I thought it had been 28 years since a win up there. You are right.

Last win on the road against top 10 was at #4 Michigan on Mar 10, 2013?

Ok, that's right Michigan was also top ten and was the last game of the season on the road. That was the game Zeller went off and then at the end Jordan Morgan had the lay in that rimmed out and IU was Big Ten champs!

I can eat crow I didn't watch the game didn't think we had a chance tired of seeing same old garbage man I was wrong I know MSU missed free throws but glad our team fought hard that's all I can ask for win or lose.

I don't think you need to eat crow for this one. There is almost no precedent for this:

Winning at Breslin? (IU had lost 21 of 22 times)
Beating a top ten team? ( IU had lost 7 in a row and basically looked uncompetitive through much of that stretch)
Big Ten road win? ( Not easy to do ever)
Winning without Morgan? (No one thought it possible)
Letting a two possession lead slip and going to overtime on the road ? ( that generally spells out a loss)

No, this one was truly a surprise. But it can teach this young team a lot about believing they can win.

I can still see the ball on the rim, frozen in time as if for eternity, deciding which way to fall. One way was an outright BT championship, the other way offered a shared title. When the ball made it’s decision, the vision became my release (with all due respect to Dan Fogelberg).

After that terrible home loss to OSU the game before, the faiths aligned.

I think the final game with Michigan, the final second of said game, was the most excited I’ve ever heard Fischer in his broadcast, other than his ejaculating enthusiasm simaltaneous with THE Smart SHOT. The “Fish” loves IU and it shows, as it should.

The people upset at Glass for not getting rid of Crean earlier can blame this shot. No way Glass could fire him one year removed from an outright title....

After posting this I realized I left out “The Wat Shot”. Gotta always mention that one in any discussion pertaining to broadcasting exuberance. I did not actually hear this one, but can only imagine the aftermath of unbridled enthusiasm resulting from this last second turn of events.

For your pleasure...

Thank you. It is why I like Don Fischer-he's one of us! Actually, I missed 99% of the game, as I had a social engagement I was in charge of that night. I stepped into a local shop and saw it on their TV screen with about 3 minutes remaining. I was too nervous to watch the ending so I stepped outside, away from the TV and kept walking. It was probably about 30 min. later before I reconvened with some IU fans in the group who were going "nutsey/cockoo" over the finish of the game. It was only then that I heard a last second shot by IU won the game. I don't know what it is about me, but sometimes I just can't take the stress, I want IU to win so badly I just can't bare to watch. It's happened many times through the years, including the IU vs. Purdue football game with a Rose Bowl bid on the line in 1967. I gave my ticket away to a friend of the family...a Purdue person, of all people, and drove around mindlessly for four hours without the radio on, not tuning in to find out the score until I was sure it was over. Some of you will understand, while some of you will call me coward and I can understand that one, too. I do coward quite well, actually. It is what it is.

That was the most asinine thing that guy ever did. Totally classless to say that to an opposing coach. Meyer may have well helped “ruin” things for IU but to go off on him like that after a big win was dumb. I don’t care if you are letting out frustration, defending the school, etc. Just blow by the guy, shake his hand and be done with it.

My dad, RIP, was a die hard IU grad who would actually throw up before games because he was so nervous.....and he wasn’t even playing! Just a spectator.

Listen to Fish call the Wat shot then listen to him again on Rob's game winner against Butler this year. Sounds like a replay.

Yogi actually got a finger on that lay in and caused it to rim out.

I had not heard that little tidbit. Is it factual or fictionalized lore of IU basketball? Has anyone else backed up Yogi's claim? Where is the replay from the highlight camera positioned high above the basket? I want to make sure your re-utterance of Yogi's claim is not pure poppycock...you know, fake news.

When I was young....a mere lad, I used to watch IU's games on TV with the folks. It wasn't unusual for my mom to have to leave the room when a game got tight at the end. She would tell us to come get her when the game was over, where we would inevitably find her in a darkened room, laying down in bed. I always assumed I just inherited mom's malady.

One of the great joys of that play was the pass made by Verdell Jones. He could have tried to force a shot up, but had the presence of mind to find Watford for the open shot.
D. Thomas to K. Smart, money= Natty. Just many good memories. I feel more are to come.

But he sure as hell could have - and should have - fired his ass after Devin Davis got drug under Emmitt Holt’s car.
That particular incident, movement if you will, has to be one of the weirder ones in IU basketball history. I know a lot of IU fans don't like to hear the name Bob Knight mentioned, but I can't help but wonder how Bob Knight would have handled the situation. Maybe he would have nipped the problem in the bud (pun not intended, but go ahead) before it was allowed to happen the way it did or didn't....we'll never really know. One thing I do know is that I miss not seeing Emmett Holt in an IU uniform for a few more years. He had enthusiasm for the game with lots of untapped potential and was a good looking kid.

Two great ones in early 90s: beating Thug 5 in their house in January 93 by a point and Jimmy Jackson's O$U at Columbus in 92. Both times Alan Henderson had great games. He blocked CWeb's shot at the last second in 93 and had a career high basically hitting a whole bunch of mid range jumpers off down screens in Columbus. Damon also hit a half court buzzer beater against O$U at the end of the first half. Good old days.... From 91-93, we lost a total of 8 big 10 games....

I remember seeing the replay and you can see that the ball just barely changes direction after Yogi got his fingertips on it. It looked like enough to cause it to miss. It might be on YouTube. There was a camera on the backboard, if I recall, so it was an extremely close camera shot.

At about the 4:10 mark.

Did it alter the shot? IDK - although Yogi could have caused it to bounce of the board a little harder, which was all that was necessary for it to miss.
