Just curious...
Another miss in the BIg Dance?
Off-court issues with other players?
I have a bad feeling that if IU makes the dance, Crean saves his job. Any thoughts?

Re: I'm so glad this question has never been brought up before.

The outcry from boosters, etc would have to be so big Fred glass would have no choice but to make a move. Though in my book he should be fired even before crean.

A ridiculous statement of zero tolerance or threat of NCAA sanctions? dws

That seemed to work before.

Actually, losing on the road in the B1G to an excellent team like UW is not the time to evaluate or pursue a coaching change.

The AD has made his backing of CTC clear.

Coach Crean is not going anywhere for a while. Check the contract and the buyout.

Get some snot nosed kid

to walk by CTC and haze him by saying "Whats up Crean". Put a couple of bruises on his arm and say Crean abused him.

DWS.

Put your money where your mouth is

Why don't you write a big check. On the memo, write "For new coach".

Why will you have a bad feeling about making the NCAA tournament? You would rather see the team fail just to get a new coach?

He wasn't my first choice for a coach, but he is ours now and I will forgive last season as a one year dip. If we don't improve this year and next, then the choice will be obvious.

I'm not saying I think Crean is the answer..

and I've even said recently I don't think he's the guy that's going to get us back to being among the elite. That said, its silly to talk about this right now after everything we have lost this year. Like him or not, Crean has overachieved with this team so far.

Re: I'm not saying I think Crean is the answer..

Overachieved how? You mean his roster management is so bad you expected an even worse record. Crean is responsible for this roster.

I'll repeat what I've said before. NIT berth and all is good

in the mind of Fred Glass. He'll be spinning it up that here we are, a year removed from last season's 17-15 season and the coach has this thing turned to the point where IU can compete in the NIT and even host a great NIT contest. I think Crean's already moved past any possibility of losing his job after this season.

I can completely agree with the roster..

but that's not the point. Point is, we were predicted by most, even most of us here, that IU would be lucky to finish top 5 in the conference. Most publications picked us 10th in the league. That was BEFORE we lost Davis, BEFORE anyone knew Perea would be hurt for a large part of the B1G season. That was without knowing we would be without Blackmon for a game. If you honestly cant admit that, given what this team had and what we have been through, Crean has overachieved with what he has, then you aren't very smart.

Sentencing a Bob Knight personality with...

a zero tolerance policy...brilliant move, Myles. Have a 16 year old, snot-nosed kid with no respect for elders bring the Hall of Famer down!

There were publications that had IU at 9th and 10th

an awful lot of people here seemed to think 5th to 7th. This year ain't over. IU could easily end up 7th or below. Seems as though most posts I read were saying that IU would have some outstanding guards but defense was going to be a weakness. To me, that's exactly what I'm seeing. So, I'd phrase it as playing about as well as can be expected, not overachieving

Personally, I believe that 8-10 or 9-9 is a likely end of the season B1G record. I'm still thinking, just as I did prior to the start of the season that 19-12 or 20-11 would be about right for this team. I still maintain my preseason prognostication that an NIT berth would be about the ceiling.

BTW... I don't think Hanner would make that much of a difference in what's happened to this point.

Sounds like the best job security...

...is to never have a full and balanced roster.

He's only perceived to have overachieved this season...

because of the low expectations (for this team) he is responsible for. Do you really believe he deserves credit for having a better season than people expected with a roster he wholly constructed? It isn't like this team is having a great year. "Great for them" doesn't mean he should be given credit for exceeding the low expectation team he assembled.

Yep. Assemble a team that isn't expected to do anything...

and exceed those expectations...everything is rosy!

Any thoughts...?

First, there will be no coaching change in the near future.

Near future meaning next three years or so.

There are no metrics involved.

Glass hired Crean, watched Crean build up a dead man program to part of the national conversation.

He actually signed a player named Zeller.

Won the BiG Championship.

Won't waste time on thugs.

And finally, Bob Knight is not coming back to Indiana.

Some folks need a life...

Fred Glass did not hire Tom Crean.......

It's doubtful CTC is here for 3 more years, but if so that just means IU will continue to be average. Apparently that's OK with many.

If he hadn't signed Zeller he would probably already be gone. Unfortunately top big guys aren't going anywhere near IU anymore, they know better.

Why is it the only people that ever mention RMK are those trying to pretend like CTC is a good coach?

Everybody knows he isn't coming back, nobody has advocated it, why do the CTC lovers keep bring it up? Do they think is masks their clear lack off BB knowledge?

Embrace Mediocrity!

If the season falls apart and we miss the dance, it's possible.

If it REALLY falls apart and we miss the NIT, it's inevitable.

I want to be clear that I don't think those are good reasons to fire the guy. I think we should fire the guy because he sucks at the game of basketball. But even good coaches have bad seasons.

But results are what most of the donors notice. They are what an AD like Glass notices. Two no-result seasons in a row will probably do it.

Re: Fred Glass did not hire Tom Crean.......

You are correct that top big men are staying clear of IU. Crean may stay but nothing will change and fan support will continue to decrease.

He didn't hire him...

...but he is the one who inked the extension and ridiculous buyout, which actually may be worse than hiring him in the first place. But it does serve to hitch Glass' wagon to Crean's star...such as it is.

I don't see a change until the close of the 2017 season at the earliest unless the wheels completely come off. But I think CTC can ride 21-12 and a tourney berth each year for a good long time at IU.

Just to be clear...you are now rooting AGAINST IU

correct? Why don't you go find another team to go "support"...I'm sure they have a board to post things like this.

^^ Is clearly Embracing the Mediocrity.

and is willing to fight for it. lol. I love these guys telling everyone to root for someone else as a way to puff out their fan chests. You're such a great fan that you'll eventually accept even poor results, right?

I hate the embracing Mediocrity

because that is such a crock because what are we suppose to do to change things. I am still going to back the team and root for them to win but that is not saying I am happy with average. Why don't you do something about the mediocrity instead of complaining about it.

Voicing ones displeasure is one of the ways to let the AD know....

that you are dissatisfied.

If I win the lottery I will offer it up to get rid of CTC and Glass.

At this point the AD needs to go to. IU has everything it needs to be a top 15 school year in and year out. All it's missing is an AD with balls and a competent coach.

The louder the voices get, the harder it is for the AD to support an average coach.

Sure, the big money has more influence, fortunately there are many of them not happy as well. A few more and the travesty that is IU BB today might start looking for a remedy.

Then quit enabling it Mr True Fan Police ..

and quit trying to tell those that are far superior than you in intellect how they should behave as a fan.

I have probably been wtching IU basketball

longer than you have been alive and probably have forgotten more about basketball than you will ever know. Again if you don't like something do something about it instead of not bringing anything to the discussion.

Really? ..

maybe you should have spent more time in school and less time being a true fan.

You really thin Glass.

cares about a bunch of know all message board guys think about the program because if you do you think a little to much of yourself. If you are unhappy right him a letter or get a petition because complaining on a message board will not change a thing.

I graduated IU East with a 3.2 GPA

so I think I spent enough time in the class room. By your post you might want to start watching more basketball if you want to discuss the game on here because you have no clue right now young pup.

No I don't....

but I think if he hears a lot of dissatisfaction from many different elements of the IU fanbase it adds up.

If you think the AD doesn't monitor the talk on boards then you are flat out wrong. Does that mean they make decisions based on message board posters? Obviously not, nobody thinks that. However when he hears it from all angles, it starts to add up.

Why do you think he felt the need to address it several times in the last year in the media? Boos at games, games with low attendance, multiple message board complaints, big donors willing to pony up for a change, all these things add up.

I'm not a millionaire, so I can't offer and significant money to buy out the contract, but I am a lifelong fan whose family has had season tix to both FB and BB since 1972. Glass is smart enough to know that you can't alienate that average fan (at least I hope he is, that's up for discussion).

No, message board chatter won't cause a change, it's just a place for fans of a program to share their thoughts.

That's a B average....in other words....mediocre....

....you seem to accept that.....good for you.
