What good is a letter of intent?

I'm not saying to decline McNeeley's request just wondering what good it is these days? The only one forced (I assume they are forced) to honor the commitment is the University. A buddy of mine text me last night and said it's like college basketball has a union, salaries are now negotiated and if a player has buyers remorse he can just jump ship either by portal or by just not honoring his letter of commitment.

He still manages to turn the game on, but rarely last past half time. I told him fans need to treat it like it needs to be treated, if you want change hit them where it hurts by not buying tickets or merchandise and definitely not giving cash donations to the University.

Told a 24 year old that works for me he may never live during a time when IU is "relevant". That is extremely sad, especially to know his best memory is a sweet sixteen team that couldn't beat a "ok" Syracuse squad.
