What does a lame duck coach do for recruiting or transfer portal?

While the probability of making the tournament is looking to approximate zero, would we pull the trigger on Woody mid season to retain current players or stay in the running for future talent? I can't believe that the success of Pope at UK and McNeely being FOTW doesn't heat CMW's seat significantly.

Gotta think that Mac and Malik would be outta here after this year if we don't have post season simply based on trying to preserve their NBA hopes. What recruit is going to see this level talent and believe their NBA hopes will be boosted if Woodson was miraculously retained? I see zero chance Woody leaves voluntarily and if we don't backfill quickly, next year is house too.

There is absolutely zero upside to this situation. The titanic has struck the ice berg and will founder. But the clueless administration, BOT continue to use buckets to dump water out of the ship. This entire situation is just sad and the result of nepotism and incompetence. I hope IU loses whenever they play their next game. They don't care, why should those who feel like myself?

Not sure on contract but I thought they have to wait till March then they can lump sum the rest of his deal. If we hire a good coach the kids will come we have NIL money we just need a good coach. I hope once Woodson is fired we can let Buckner go too we don't need nepotism at Indiana.

Yep i don't think being a lame duck matters anymore as long as they have paychecks to offer. If coach leaves they can easily leave too

I think we had players that were absolutely leaning to jump off last season’s titanic and came back for money. Why would these players be concerned with winning when they see IU losing season after season and players like Ware being rewarded?

I think they thought "help is on the way". Unless they are delusional, there is no way they are even making the G league. Maybe they'll have made enough money in college to tide them over for awhile, else, I would think they know the gravy train is almost over. They have to know Woody is gone after this year.

I think after this season the remaining buyout can be paid off in annual installments instead of a lump sum

I believe they would have the option of paying $1 million a year for 8 years but you may be right—if they were willing to pay $15 million (in 2 installments iirc) to move on from Allen they might be more than willing to come up with the $8.4 million to put an end to this.
