We're back!

I went to sleep last night thinking it was over. All that content wiped from existence at the push of a button. The memes, the fights, the entire course outline for CoH U.

An existential reminder of the fleeting nature of all existence really. A real wake up call. What would I do with my time now? Would I find an entirely new way of being in the world? Maybe I’ll become a writer? A poet? An infinite number of possibilities unfolded before me in a flash. My desperation turned to curiosity, even hope.

Then I woke up to write a good bye post only to find the WC restored. Well, Fvck. Back to the grindstone I guess.

who knows for how long. In emailing with Jim apparently there’s no appetite for any of the free forums in this space

Cost/benefit. Do freebies convert? Will preemies leave if the free forums are killed?

I was a freeloader who converted. (Jim kinda shamed me into it.) I would also unsub if the Cooler went away. But I have no idea how typical I might be.

I also doubt there is any actual cost to hosting the free forums other than the hassle factor, dealing with douchebags and fights and whining forum members.

I wonder how much traffic there was back in the Peegs’ days. I feel like 10x as much

Was that Jim's appetite or Rivals in general? I can understand with Jim, but not the mothership.
I can’t remember. It was a few months ago. He was exploring ideas to increase membership and I told him that IMO it’s mostly just luck. Good team more interest. Lots of apathy the last decade. You lose followers. He can’t do much about that

He had a couple of good ones with Alec and Lasley who are now doing it on their own at Hoosier Illustrated. Hard to make money if you can't creat content that people want to pay for. Lots of articles were rehashes of IU press releases at one point. It was literally a paragraph of commentary and then the release was pasted in.

I wish him the best at On3, but it'll still depend on content and good digital marketing campaign to drive viewers to an entirely new property.

That’s what he was asking about. Content. I told him I couldn’t speak to that as i have not read a single article on this site in more than five years.

I wish him the best too. I know there are incentives to go over there etc. I hope he does well. I hope the new people at this site do well. It’s an interesting business that again I have no idea what kind of profits you can pull out of it

Jim was counting on this site driving traffic to his other sites. If that wasn't happening then it wasn't worth dealing with.

For the longest time, the content wasn't posted on the freebie, just the premium. What was posted was the complete multi-hour radio show, which had no index that allowed you to skip to the parts that you wanted to listen to. When he started chopping it up into short segments that were content-specific, it was great. Bouncing through a couple of hours of the show to find the 15-minute segment you wanted wasn't good, and the only ads he was getting paid for were the ones he read or had interspersed in the breaks. I hope the YouTube approach with the bite-sized content is paying off for him. He seems to be figuring it out.

They need to incorporate meet and greats, vlogs, and live stream conversations on YouTube or some medium. Part of all this shit is just dudes wanting to bullshit. You have to capitalize on it and make it more personal. My 2 cents.

I beleive the Cooler is the most trafficked board on the site. That's saying something.

However, if they did charge $5-10 I wouldn't mind, JUST FOR THE COOLER. Don't really see a business model there though on castoffs from a dead basketball program. Hell, we're a football school now anyways.

If that’s true I should get a piece of that. I could easily hit the portal. Take my talents elsewhere

@snarlcakes we’ll post here. It’s cool. Pay us. Flip the script. Pay us in bitcoin. Or we take the dream team to a different site. Ig pays. YouTube pays. Pay us for the clicks on our posts.

I've always had this idea for a podcast. Nobody names their boys Richard anymore. The pod is called "Where are the Dicks?" We'll take callers who are named Rich, Richard or Dick and hear how having that name has affected their lives. Just a bunch of shit talk between calls. Drink some beers. Whisky tastings. Whatever we want to do.

See that’s an angle. That’s a hook. That could work.

As for this place we’re being exploited. WE’RE THE TALENT. This is very simple

This is like my buddy’s idea of topless women driving ride shares. Calls it Boober.

Jim isn't going to have much to do with the website, more of a silent partner. He's leaving that to Alec and Kyler.

Forums are another issue.

On3 reportedly has better resources, perhaps better technology. They let the people who run the sites dictate their content. For some reason, I feel like Rivals values volume more than quality.

I’ve had a related idea. You take forgotten names and try and find the youngest person with that name. For example, we have Linda on the pod today. Linda is 48 and lives outside of Des Moines.

If those two are involved, then I'm intrigued. They hustle and have put out good content.

There's a perfect segment for "Where Are The Dicks?".
