Way too many teams from the SEC. We deserved to be in the field. There is no way a conference can go 8-0, cover every game, and the 9th place team is justifiably left out. We should be playing this weekend.
I’d rather have our new coach running… We weren’t going to do anything.Way too many teams from the SEC. We deserved to be in the field. There is no way a conference can go 8-0, cover every game, and the 9th place team is justifiably left out. We should be playing this weekend.
No we didn't. Our preseason schedule was horrible and Woodson got blown out way too many times with his six million dollar team. And to play this weekend you would have to win your first game. That likely wasn't going to happen.Way too many teams from the SEC. We deserved to be in the field. There is no way a conference can go 8-0, cover every game, and the 9th place team is justifiably left out. We should be playing this weekend.
Seems almost like there's some component of "they were good last year" factored in, even though that logically doesn't make sense.I’m still trying to figure out how purdue got a higher seed than Michigan. UM finished the regular season higher than pu plus won the tournament.
Oh, and back to the topic, we weren’t robbed. We got what we earned.
Actually they assign some starting ranking based on a secret formula never released. I guess it is based on last year and who you lost and who you gained. I am like you-maybe too large an influence in some cases.Seems almost like there's some component of "they were good last year" factored in, even though that logically doesn't make sense.
Purdue had better non conference wins?I’m still trying to figure out how purdue got a higher seed than Michigan. UM finished the regular season higher than pu plus won the tournament.
Oh, and back to the topic, we weren’t robbed. We got what we earned.
Yeah. And based on his reputation, he is working his ass off right now building his staff and searching for players. I take some comfort in that compared to Woody.I’d rather have our new coach running… We weren’t going to do anything.
I hate Izzo and his style of bball but Wisconsin okay with me.I’d like to see Wisconsin or MSU win it all.
New era. Feels good to flush it.If we'd have been in we'd have probably won a playin game and then lost in a blowout. Hard to guess. Team was so inconsistent, might have lost first game or won a couple.
I wanted us in, but it also feels good this era is over.

Two 6-12 conference record SEC teams....wtf? On the other hand, chances of us preventing this record were pretty high.Way too many teams from the SEC. We deserved to be in the field. There is no way a conference can go 8-0, cover every game, and the 9th place team is justifiably left out. We should be playing this weekend.
The committee doesn’t account for conference affiliation or performance in its evaluation. Nor should they. That said, WVU and IU, in that order, were more deserving than UNC and Xavier. However, IU is mostly responsible for its own fate by getting blown out in several games this season. If IU had been competitive (single-digit loss at least) in most of its blowout losses, they most likely would’ve gotten a bid over UNC, at least.Way too many teams from the SEC. We deserved to be in the field. There is no way a conference can go 8-0, cover every game, and the 9th place team is justifiably left out. We should be playing this weekend.
Yeah. Non conference PU against top 25 was-Purdue had better non conference wins?
Agreed, but it turns out the SEC and ACC earned even less. By process of elimination, IU should have been in.we weren’t robbed. We got what we earned.
Both NET and Ken Pom had IU below the successful at large bids.Agreed, but it turns out the SEC and ACC earned even less. By process of elimination, IU should have been in.
But like I said before the west coast trip, Indiana had to win at Oregon to get in.
Same. I have no doubt Woody wanted to win and bring IU back to greatness. He just didn’t have the vitality to do what was required to get there.Yeah. And based on his reputation, he is working his ass off right now building his staff and searching for players. I take some comfort in that compared to Woody.
Yes. Agree too many teams in SEC, but we did not get robbed. We suck and would have sucked in the tourney.Way too many teams from the SEC. We deserved to be in the field. There is no way a conference can go 8-0, cover every game, and the 9th place team is justifiably left out. We should be playing this weekend.
Do they not take into account the suckage at the end of the season? Think they finished 3-6.Yeah. Non conference PU against top 25 was-
Win over Bama (87-78)
Loss to Marquette (58-76]
Win over Ole Miss (80-78)
Loss to TAMU (66-70)
Loss to Auburn (69-87)
Michigan non conference against top 25-
Win against Xavier (78-53)
Loss to Oklahoma (86-87)
Also had loss to Arkansas at home (87-89)
and that’s it.
Purdue had better non conference schedule.
Both NET and Ken Pom both had PU above Michigan. NET is intended to be a resume while Ken Pom is intended to be more predictive so more sensitive to current play but both had PU ranked higher. Ken Pom’s algorithms completely out side the scope of control of the NCAA but still agreement PU higher ranked than Michigan.Do they not take into account the suckage at the end of the season? Think they finished 3-6.
What's your point? Both NET and Ken Pom had IU below the successful at large bids.
I disagree. He viewed this gig as a way to pump his retirement account expecting his powerful backers to keep him in the job while he half-assed his responsibilities. The guy didn’t even go off campus to recruit. He used NIL to buy his roster.Same. I have no doubt Woody wanted to win and bring IU back to greatness. He just didn’t have the vitality to do what was required to get there.
That Xavier, and UNC, and UT were ranked higher than IU on both NET and Ken Pom so not just some arbitrary decision by the Selection Committee for them to receive at large bids and not IU.What's your point?
In investing it seems that studies show that manually overriding the algorithms leads to worse performance. You could believe the Selection Committee and NET and Ken Pom all suck but you can’t make the case that only the Selection Committee sucks..
The selection committee sucks because they picked the teams wrong. You could believe the Selection Committee and NET and Ken Pom all suck but you can’t make the case that only the Selection Committee sucks..
That’s my point, they did not override the algorithms. In investing it seems that studies show that manually overriding the algorithms leads to worse performance.
That is the selection committee's role. They cherry pick because 'reasons'. Very inconsistent reasons.
They make the field worse. They absolutely suck.

You have to understand basketball. You can't just be a computer and pick teams. That Xavier, and UNC, and UT were ranked higher than IU on both NET and Ken Pom so not just some arbitrary decision by the Selection Committee for them to receive at large bids and not IU.
If you can do better you should be a very rich man.The selection committee sucks because they picked the teams wrong.
Statisticians are even worse because they don't have any accountability for probability. Even reporters have more accountability than statisticians.
Well then, invest in the fact that North Carolina won't be pleased with how crappy of a coach they have for much longer. They will do a little correction and be fine long term.In investing it seems that studies show that manually overriding the algorithms leads to worse performance.
You can make a boatload of money on the remaining tournament games. You have to understand basketball. You can't just be a computer and pick teams.
Oh, OK. I did misunderstand your point a bit. That’s my point, they did not override the algorithms.
It’s within their purview to override the algorithms but in this case they didn’t. Running the tournament is about the only real responsibility the NCAA has left. I guess approving red shirts is also still their responsibility and probably a few other things.Oh, OK. I did misunderstand your point a bit.
But, what is their reason for being then?

It’s been said in the past, it’s not how you start in Nov and Dec, but how you finish in Feb and (early) March. Purdue finished the regular season losing 6 of their last 9 games. Slick-haired Mattie Boy must have some influential friends on the selection committee. They now have a Saturday stroll in the park to Indy.I’m still trying to figure out how purdue got a higher seed than Michigan. UM finished the regular season higher than pu plus won the tournament.
Oh, and back to the topic, we weren’t robbed. We got what we earned.
This isn't rocket science. Look at the teams and who've they've beaten, and their winning percentage. Look at who coaches them and their past history. Are they tough in close games? Can they blow out bad teams? Are they in a good conference? Can they shoot? Hit free throws? How tough is the conference? Did they win more than they lost (hint hint)If you can do better you should be a very rich man.
