This is what happens when you hire coaches with absolutely no college experience. So many of us were admonished by everyone. These are the results you get when you go cheap. Indiana isn't serious about athletics. Period.

I’d love to know the cumulative points for and against for the entire Big 10 season in second half’s

What exactly did Sampson turn around? My recollection is that the results were the same as MD’s final year here. 2nd round exit in the tourney…

KS‘ was rolling until the day the 2nd sanctions came out and Wisky beat us at home on a bank 3 for BT title.

No, they came within inches of beating a good UCLA team and going to the Elite 8, if I recall.

They looked tired at the end, not moving like they were earlier. Galloway would have helped. Bird, too. The music is over. Turn off the lights.

His first year here Sampson had DJ White, better than TJD, and he had some good shooters like Bassett, Wilmont, Stemler and a good PG Earl Calloway. Much better guards and a man in the middle who was twice the college player than TJD.
I can’t believe people think this roster compares with Sampson first. Those guards were way better.

Sigh. Remember when that pissed us all off?!
I remember watching that Gonzaga game in Davis’ last year. It was my bachelor party. And I was disgusted with where our program was. Ha ha ha ha.

We fired crean to hire two guys that have led us to five straight ncaa misses. You better make sure you make a damn good hire after crean and they did not.The administration simply will not put its big boy pants on like other schools to make the big time hire. Thats why we are trash and will likely continue to be. This program is as dead as it was two years ago. There is zero momenteum and fans are already dejected again in year one.

Dolson should have a short list of coaching candidates ready. I've never felt less excitement about IU basketball and its future than this season.
That makes alot of us but woodson was his big genius idea. I am guessing dolson will refuse to admit defeat until after year 3 minimum. These guys have massive egos. I just cannot believe fife left izzo for this garbage.

So true. I can’t believe how bad we shot tonight. So many wide open looks. Rutgers start 4 guards/wings who all have better play making than any of our perimeter players. Hopefully Bates makes a jump next year and Schifino and Gunn come in ready to play!

Yeah, no. Try again. If I ever needed another reminder that you people don’t live in reality this is it…
Wrong, he is right, would have been an EE had we beaten UCLA, who did go on to the title game. I watched it, remember it, and I was actually surprised we didn't win

1st half: IU 662, Opp. 569 (+93)
2nd half/OT: Opp. 705, IU 615 (-90)

Like I said somewhere else. Bad coaches. Sampson turned it around with the snap of a finger.
Sampson took over a team that won 19 games and proceeded to add 2 wins to that total the following year… Now I have always thought Sampson was a very good coach, but please, don’t let facts get in the way. You guys are ridiculous.

Sounds like Buckner forced the Woody hire on Dolson from what I've heard and he's the President of the BOT now. Woody is going nowhere.

Once again, you are wrong. We were a 7 seed, UCLA was a 2 seed. We lost in the 2nd round.

I remember watching it at my grandfather's place in Florida. UCLA's defense was stifling. Rod Wilmont was the only guy who could get anything going.

Blows my mind how these “fans” have been living their lives for years believing that Sampson got us to a sweet sixteen. Of course now those same people want him back. SMH

This right here^^^^^

People won't like me saying this, but we're really not all that talented. We're just not.

Take when we were up 37-28 in the 2nd half last night. Pikell switched to a zone and and 2-1/2 minutes later we were down 38-37. During that stretch we had a missed jumper by Xavier, a turnover by Race and a turnover by TJD. Rutgers had 2 FT's by Geo Baker, back-to-back 3-pointers by Ron Harper, Jr and a layup.

Then after coming back and taking the lead at 47-40, Woody subs Stewart for Xavier. Parker proceeds to miss 5 straight treys before finally hitting one to tie us at 63-all.

When it comes to when we HAVE to have a basket, we have no go-to guy. No Johnny Davis. No Jaden Ivey. No Ron Harper, Jr. Our best player - Trayce - has absolutely ZERO range outside of 5 feet. Seriously, can anyone remember a time this season he hit a mid-range, 10 ft jumper?

Could Woody do better? Certainly. But he got who is supposed to be our best shooter 5 great looks - and got nothing from him. We saw on the last possession what Harper, Jr does given those kinds of looks.

Honestly, defense has kept us in these games long enough for our offensive limitations to break our hearts at the end. Brutal to take, but it's the truth.

Completely agree. This team has very little talent and those that are talented are incredibly flawed players. Sadly Bates and Geronimo are the closest things we have to complete players and they are 1st and 2nd year raw players who need to grow. X is trying to prove us all wrong by hitting shots though and I commend his effort. I hope he comes back.

We need guys who can score in multiple ways. We do not have that now and it shows.

22-4 when he got let go. But ok, it was all players.

Correct, TJD with his monster dunks to put people on a poster is just that....No good IU team in the past would even let Parker or Kopp sniff the starting lineup.

Ratings wise (talent) we’re not worse. We have zero, ZERO player development. I can only think of 1 player (Galloway) who has improved a lot over a year span. TJD has regressed as the years wore on. Bates has vanished. Kopp regressed a ton from NW. I can keep going. We don’t develop anybody.

Oladipo couldn’t hit crap when he came to IU. Same for Rod Wilmont. But somehow, those guys developed a shot!

Back…no. But it proves hiring a basketball coach who’s really good and proven at coaching college basketball at a power 5 sure makes a difference!!

This year Woodson was what 16-5. Maybe we should have fired him then so fans could make wild proclamations about what he would have done for the next 15 years.

Obviously I kid.

Good lord as I expected the old guard finally got their way with the you gotta hire an IU guy and lets relive the 1970's. What is this old guard going to say if nothing improves. I suppose they will simply blame the players. We can get boosters to pay 10 million to get rid of Archie yet the old guard gets to decide who our new coach is. Unreal.

Ask yourself one simple question: Would KS be 22-4 with this team? Sampson is a good coach, but he's not a miracle worker. He had a lot more complete array of talent than what we have this year.

Talent makes you a much better coach. Wayne Lukas is arguably the greatest horse trainer of all time, but he sure as hell ain't winning the Kentucky Derby with Mr. Ed. You don't win big without thoroughbreds.
