We are ahead of the schudule.

I wouldn't say ahead of schedule by any means just yet. 3-0 to start the season was always a realistic and expected result. Conference play is what will determine anything close to resembling a breakout season.

It was expected when we played 2 FCS schools and a MAC team. Either way, 2 good wins but we really need to get this #3 and then we are in great shape.

Have to beat Ball State or it's right back to the starting line. And the "chirpers" have been a thorn in the foot of IUFB in the not so distant past. Hope IU just guts the Cardinals.....42 - 10.

I'll just be happy with a W.

I'm thinking we win it in OT 30 - 29

I'm hoping it's more like 77 - 0

I hope so, but I'm not convinced. We've won our games but not by the margins or in the way that I would expect from a team that goes bowling.

Unless you are Ohio State or Alabama, there’s a lot of schools that don’t win games by huge margins the first few weeks. Look at Michigan State vs Utah State, Iowa vs Iowa State, Penn State vs App State.

Other than the perennial bowl teams, what exactly do the other 30 teams trying to fill bowl slots look like at this time? It’s a complete mixed bag of performances.

In 2016, Northwestern lost 3 of their first 4 games (1 of them against Eastern Illinois!!!) They went on to a bowl and ended 7-6 by beating Pitt in the bowl.

It’s a long season.

Ball State won’t be a pushover and IU will need to play well to win. Watched most of their game against ND and they certainly competed.

I believe they lost to Illinois State, not Eastern Illinois. Not a good day for them, but ISU was a formidable opponent and team then.

I think many of us felt there was a decent chance IU would be 1-1 after the first two games. The fact that IU is 2-0 means, in my opinion, they are ahead of schedule. To stay "ahead" IU must beat BSU.

Big part of being a winning team is actually winning close games, last year we lost many close games. Blowouts are great, but more often than not, finding a way to win close games is what makes or breaks your season. I’ll take another “close” win this weekend.

Maybe this is our breakout year.
I would say we are schedule. Two good wins given we were a road upset special against FIU week one and a P5 ACC opponent in horrible weather conditions week 2. I felt coming into this season we had our deepest team in recent memory. No big names but a group of solid players on both sides of the ball. This is a product of improved recruiting. Now onto BSU... Hopefully we will have a good crowd and excellent weather. Go into the MS and cheer your ass off.

Well, not to throw water on your enthusiasm but you just proved that "ahead of schedule" is purely subjective at this point. Im okay with that...just as long as when we lose a game you don't start saying we are behind schedule now...vbg...

Win vs. BSU and 100% "on schedule" but not sure I'll say "ahead of schedule" until any of following happens:
-Beat MSU at home
-Beat either/and/or IA & MD at home, MN on road
-Of course PU for Bucket
-Go bowling

I am not crazy bullish on them at UM or OSU, and not ready to say they'll take PSU at home either. But MSU is great opportunity this year b/c their bye week is week 3! Meaning after only two early games, have a week off and then come to IU who will hopefully be hitting stride after 3 wins and at home. If ever a good chance for table being set for an upset, this is it.

The other wins are the ones that help IU move from lower end of the pack to perhaps near top of the middle and knocking at the door of the top third.

Lot of good young talent coming into the IU pipeline that will have the potential to breakthrough for sure.

Solid start to the year. Hasn’t always been pretty but we’ve handled business. We can’t afford any letdowns though. I expect the team to come out strong Saturday in what looks to be ideal football weather.

One of these things is not like the other...can you guess which thing does not belong

How did you loop iowa state in with utah state and app state?

Point well taken. But, IU will be "behind" schedule with one unexpected loss imo. It's a thin line of distinction. They are on schedule if you though they would be 2-0. They are ahead if you thought they would (could) lose against FIU or VA. There's that .5 thing at work.

If you rewatch the game, you will see just how well the offensive line performed. Train your eyes solely on the oline, don't watch the ball in order to do this. IMHO, I think that's the best I've seen an IU oline perform since Spriggs was here. Actually, they were more dominating than the Spriggs led lines......!

If that group shows up the remainder of the season, you bet, we are way ahead of schedule. If they play that way against Ball State, IU covers that spread. That type of play will allow IU to be in the game to win against everyone on their schedule...this assuming they play that way every week.

Being 4-0 after MSU puts us "ahead of schedule", actually 5-0 after Rutgers as well. 4-1 after Rutgers and we're merely back to being "on schedule".

Until then, we are simply "on schedule". We won two games we were favored in.

Gotta beat BSU, then MSU. If we do that, I will consider it a game changer.
