WBB: Yarden Garzon is in the portal (nm)

Ok, that is a disaster. The others made sense as we were probably honest in trying to recruit over them. No way with Garzon.

Do not contact means she knows where she is going. The only way she would know this place would pay more NIL is if they offered her already. Technically a violation. So maybe that is it but it seems like it could be something else. Maybe she was unhappy seeing all her friends leave. But we really are in a world of hurt for next year

If you believe the rumors, and I do, maybe she didn't like someone on the men's team emailing her their hate speech. Possibly didn't feel like she was "stood up" for in a proper way? Just a thought, but this has been an awfully tough year for her.

DNC can mean she knows where she's going or it can mean 'contact my agent, not me'.

The theory below about the whole Fear of God uniforms and whatever went on behind the scenes with that is plausible, but I have nothing definitive to add to it.

If true, that would be one more reason to hate this years mens team!

Not even close to the only reason. It could simple be she does not want 300 phone calls and messages from programs she has not interest in going to and she (or her reps), will reach out to those she is interested in.

If that is true, someone screwed up big time.

I'm guessing $$$ for her. The others were not surprises and each had different reasons why it wasn't surprising.

Aren't international players still restricted in NIL? I recall, and found the story below, of Edey complaining about that last year.

What is the Fear of God uniforms thing that went down? Is that related to the "hate speech"?

International college athletes face significant restrictions when it comes to profiting from Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) opportunities due to U.S. immigration laws and visa regulations. Below is an overview of the rules and challenges:

Key Rules for International Student-Athletes and NIL

  1. Visa Restrictions:
    • Most international student-athletes in the U.S. hold F-1 visas, which limit their ability to work off-campus or engage in revenue-generating activities, including NIL deals, while in the U.S.4610.
    • Engaging in unauthorized employment, including NIL deals that violate visa terms, can lead to severe penalties such as visa termination, deportation, and bans on future U.S. entry46.
  2. Permissible Activities:
    • International athletes can earn passive income from NIL activities that comply with visa rules, such as royalties or earnings from activities conducted outside the U.S.47.
    • They are allowed to pursue NIL opportunities in their home countries or during academic breaks when they are physically outside the U.S.710.
  3. Prohibited Activities:
    • NIL deals involving active work (e.g., autograph sessions, endorsements, or appearances) within the U.S. are generally not allowed under F-1 visa rules410.
    • Athletes cannot accept payments directly from their schools for NIL-related activities since NCAA rules also prohibit direct institutional payment313.
  4. Tax Implications:
    • Any NIL income earned by international athletes is subject to U.S. tax laws and may be taxed at a rate of 30% as nonresident income3.
  5. Institutional Role:
    • Schools are prohibited from arranging NIL deals for international athletes or using NIL payments as recruiting tools13. However, they may provide guidance on navigating state laws and compliance13.

Proposed Legislative Changes

  • A bipartisan bill introduced in Congress aims to modify F-1 visa regulations to allow international student-athletes to profit from NIL opportunities without jeopardizing their immigration status116.
  • If passed, this legislation would level the playing field between domestic and international athletes by enabling equal access to NIL earnings1.

Challenges for International Athletes

  • Many international athletes must decline lucrative NIL opportunities due to visa restrictions, creating financial disparities compared to their domestic peers110.
  • The complexity of immigration laws and lack of clarity around certain types of income (e.g., royalties) make it difficult for athletes and schools to ensure compliance34.
In summary, while domestic college athletes have embraced the NIL era, international athletes remain largely sidelined due to restrictive visa policies. Legislative efforts are underway to address these inequities, but until changes are implemented, international student-athletes must navigate a challenging legal landscape to avoid jeopardizing their immigration status.

I had heard this rumor as soon as the season ended. She’s been my favorite player since she came. It’s going to be really hard cheering for a whole new men’s and women’s team.
She could shoot..But couldn't gaurd a chair..
So slow footed..
That said ..Its 13 pts or more a game that's gonna have to be replaced..
The others that went into the portal..Are all replaceable..

No. The men’s player in question emailed her in threatening manner. Remember she’s Israeli and this past year wasn’t exactly a great year for Jewish/israeli kids on campuses. I’m not sad that this men’s player is on and said,”no chance”. To coming back. F’him.

I agree with this. The men’s player never lost any playing time.

Another thought, since the NIL is so restrictive for foreign athletes, maybe she is going to go and play in Europe
where she can make the money she needs/wants.

That might be a good guess, especially if she feels the program/school didn't have her back in the rumored incident, and many of her teammates leaving. She's listed as a junior, anyone know if she's finshed the coursework for her degree?

Who are you talking about?

It’s easy to see who it is. I won’t name him because it’s not been proven it happened.
Pick a school and you will find antisemite activity at pretty much all of them, so if that was the case for entering the portal, she won't get away from it.

I’d guess it was how it was handled. I mean they were using the same facilities. It’s not just some random guy on X or a forum. It was pretty much in her face.

Can't be money, like Edey Garzon is a foreign national, it would void her visa unless routed thru Israel. Also there is very very little NIL money in wbball, and she is not high enough status to get noticed. Cotie McMahon may get a small taste, but even she won't be cashing any 6 figure or higher checks.

If this is true, I hope he gets his karma like a fist to the face. Comes to town, gets in trouble, gets paid way more than he’ll ever be worth (in basketball or real life), never amounts to jack on the court, leaves. F him. And the guy that brought him to town too.

Is Teri Moren in trouble? Weird transfers that don’t make sense
Depends on if she can start over and rebuild from the ground up. IU is likely a 5 or 6 Big Ten win team next year, even with 8 transfers. Moren will have a complete rebuild like when she first arrived, but 26th even less returning talent on the team. Her inability to develop her bench and instead riding on only 6-7 players is a huge part of this implosion IMHO.

No, but at most schools its likely the player that sent the message is expelled, unless she goes to New Mexico, then she'll be invited to a prayer meeting about forgiveness

You trashed the other thread...don't trash this one dipshit

Always Mr sunshine. Why are you so interested in IU women's basketball? Nothing better to do?
