If CCC is really going after 5 more transfers, then we are looking at losing 6 players from the above chart before the season starts.

Starters were mere guesses. Open to suggested changes.
Holt (if he's healthy) and Rudolph will be out there with Carr at Linebacker, in my opinion...

If we get the LB from Princeton Nicholas then I think he'll end up in one of those slots...

Thanks for posting. All guesses until second signing period, spring ball, etc.

How does it work to “fire” a guy who has a scholarship and did not enter the portal? Can you just say “sorry I am taking your scholarship away”?
Do you give them some type of non athlete scholarship?
I think our bill of rights allows for players to stay at IU for free. Anyone that wanted to keep playing football though would transfer out though.

His numbers were off. We still have five to give...

Not saying that no one gets asked to leave but if they were and decided to stay their athletic scholarship just changes to an academic scholarship...

That won't be an issue until the end of Spring Ball and with the Portal it's pretty much a non-issue as the guys with obviously no path to PT move on on their own...

What happened to Nick James and Dexter Williams?

Must be...

I have 5 scholarships left by my count... Could be off by two but not 5...; so 3 left at minimum...

Have I listed players that aren't on the team (or that are walk-ons)? The numbers of players listed in my post add up to 86 currently.

Normally they would have to medically retire for it not to count and stay in scholarship. Ncaa is making it hard to get reinstated. However, there is an exception when there is a new coach I believe for two seasons so this year they could do what you are saying.

Possibly 82 if Derek McCormick, Mark Langston, Matt Hohlt and Trey Walker end up being walk-ons

CCC has stated that he is still going after 3-5 more transfers.

Starters were mere guesses. Open to suggested changes.
I think the JMU transfers will be the LBs. Burris will be in there somewhere as a starter on the DL.

I'd swap Wedig and Kidwell

All I can tell you is that at the start of the Portal exodus and prior to our incoming class I had 45 guys counted as still on the roster as "Full Scholarship" guys who actually counted towards our 85... At the time, I figured I might be off by two (as to guys who were actually brought in on Full Scholarships) but no more than that...

Starting at 45 we added 31 equaling 76 with 9 to give... Some guys have been added since then I believe... (3, I think) so we're at 6, if I'm off by two (which is probable), we're at 4, which matches Cignetti's statement that'd we'd pick up another 3 to 5 in this Portal cycle which confirms (to me at least) that my numbers are close...

Worse case using your roster above, we're at 82 (you have some walk on 1 yr awarded scholarship guys counted)... so we're at 3 to give...

If we're using yours we'd be be done in the Portal until May (I kept saying April but saw a reputable source stating the Spring Portal opened in May, I must have been looking at last years dates)..,,

I'm fairly certain Cignetti knows exactly how many he has available so I'm not concerned... I just looked at mine for entertainment purposes much like you did with yours...

Yea, I'm sure CCC knows more than we do as to the scholarship situation. No doubt it will be at the 85 limit.

Hard for us to know which walk-ons (if any) that got scholarships will go back to being walk-ons. Plus, I haven't seen an article mention the status of the incoming K or LS and if they would be a scholarship or walk-on.

I think the roster, as far as scholarships, is still very fluid. As it stands now, there are about 8 portal guys scheduled to visit next week

My areas of dire need are: S and LB

Need: DE & DT

Luxury, but could win us a couple of games and be really fun to watch: WR

Sure would like to have another: G/C
