Walters Out At PU

Good point and I agree. Still tough on family, especially younger kids that have to relocate and less well paid specialty coaches who may not have great buy outs.
I was really hoping that our new offer to Cig included big money to his staff and my understanding is that it did.
I lived it the summer before my senior year in HS. Dad was not fired, just didn't get the head basketball job when the school consolidated. Many coaching moves, good or bad, have a lot to do with what the wife wants/needs, what grade the kids are in school. Many factors. Still they love the profession and know it's part of a coach's life.

I bet they go after a current HC in the MAC or Sun Belt level. Maybe they go after Chesney at JMU.

The trick for them will be finding someone dumb enough to take the job...

They hope to duplicate what Cignetti has done but it's not as simple as it looks (as several schools who just dumped their HC's are about to find out...).

Cignetti is a rare evaluator of talent who's not afraid to bring it in from wherever he finds it and doesn't waste scholarships by reaching on 4 star "potential"... who can't seem to break into the lineup... Most coaches just can't bring themselves to do that...

There's a lot more key moving parts then that too but let them discover that for themselves...😉

The rest of the country thinks turning things around on a dime just involves a Head Coach bringing a core of "their guys" with them but they don't realize that sort of thing can destroy an existing locker room as easily as bring it together if they're not the right type of guys...

All very valid points. Can you imagine the JMU fanbase if they lose another HC to the B1G ??? 😂 😂 😂 😂

Just 2-3 years ago PU made the Music City and Citrus bowls. Honestly, they'll probably make a decent hire and get back to "so-so" or "mediocre." Doing much better than that would take a homerun hire or better NIL?

NIL is not in the PUkes dictionary. It will be interesting to see who they hire though.

Isn't it amazing that fans of the Boilees are listing all the famous coaching names like Gruden, Urban, etc ... all the names IU listed in the past only to be ridiculed by the PUke fanbase. That $9M debt to the departing Walters will put a dent in their coaching search. No way they are going to pay the new coach $8M (Cig raised the market value of B1G coaching) plus the millions it will need now to hire a staff. IMO they are in an interesting situation based on their budget policies.

Chesney (from JMU) might end up being the only guy they can actually Afford to hire... He's good but he's no Curt Cignetti... The 2024 version of JMU has seriously faded in the stretch after a hot start...

I'm guessing if there's any serious talent left there that the two or three with eligibility left who can truly play will be headed our way if Cig offers them...

Chesney won't have the type of numbers of guys who can get BIG 10 ready by next Fall the way Cig did... Chesney's faithful are Holy Cross guys who may have actually maxed out already at JMU...

If Chesney does get the job he ought to send Cignetti a Christmas card with a $400,000 check in it...

I peeked at their board yesterday morning (boiler upload? when did that change from the last one?). People are suggesting that they cut their $100M+ budget for stadium improvements by half and divert that money to coaches and NIL. Delusional thinking right now.

The PUkes are to busy coming up with excuses and telling people the state of Indiana pays Cigs salary. Not kidding. They think this as they supposedly don’t take public funds. Hog!!! Wash!!!! Not literally just figuratively on that last part.

They had to ask if nil was funded by the athletic department. 🤨🥴

They followed the Allen example.

If you are going to take a chance on a coordinator, at least you need to get an OC instead of DC.
The only successful (or semi-successful) hires IU has made in the past for football coaches are all guys who were in a HC position right before coming to IU: Mallory, Hoeppner and Cignetti.
The coordinator hires who tried to cobble together a staff have had mixed to poor results. Those include Cameron, Wilson and Allen. I suppose Lynch falls a bit in between.

They definitely will go for someone with head coaching experience. The Walters experiment showed that no coach's first gig should be a Big Ten school.
I didn't understand the hire in the first place - DC when the game leans towards offense and no prior HC experience. Bobinski has to shoulder a big part of the blame here.

The listed UNLV Odom who I really like and the Memphis St coach. Odom would be a great hire but I can’t see giving up UNLV for Purdue.

Most except that one boiler who used to post here nonstop thought the walters hire was a big miss from the beginning. Brombardi had them in the big ten championship game (obviously from the losers'/west bracket) but they were winning, so they knew hiring a head coach with a staff was the way to go. And IU showed them the error of trying to learn in the big ten.

Sounds like a big part of the PU pitch is that revenue sharing is going to void out NIL payments to players, thus leveling the playing field for all the NIL Poors like Purdue.

Any coach doing their research on Purdue is going to uncover they are easily bottom 4 or so in the Big Ten for NIL and that's not going to change.

They are so off on so many things. They call it “The NIL”. Revenue sharing isn’t the same.
