It was a beautiful day for a football game, a day filled with many feel-good moments. The B-52 flyover I witnessed from the HH lot was special. I didn’t know it was coming so it was a natural rush.
I tried sneaking in a plastic water bottle hidden in my pocket. As long as I didn’t attract a crotch-watcher I figured I was okay. I didn’t realize the security pass-thru thing detects large objects non-metallic like that. I’m probably behind the times in new technology, but I told him I had two hip replacements. He could probably see them, along with my religion. He told me no. He knew from the sound of his machine I was hiding something. It’s a good thing, this increased awareness. My “water” might have been my Molotov cocktail, as Khrushchev liked to say when not beating his shoe at you. All of history turns to dust.
Everyone at the game had a good time. These kind of games on these kind of days don’t come often for us. People were slow to leave the stadium. Most wanted to experience the moment a little longer, lingering in the trenches of their giddiness. I was one. Hours later still in celebration, we carry on at least until the next one, Illinois with no “s” sound on the “s” letter, please.
Tom Allan is now 2-1 against Wisconsin. I was surprised there were so many WI fans. I gave my condolences to a few. They didn’t seem to mind though, they could feel our energy at exit and it’s contagious, no matter who you are. Win or loose, it was a very entertaining game. IU fans sleep well tonight.
