RHP Gavin Seebold will be on the mound for IU with Stadler behind the plate, while UNLV will counter with RHP Carson Lane.

The infield will be Pyne, Cerny, Oliver and newcomer Jake Hanley at 1st. The outfield will be Taylor in LF, and newcomers Korbyn Dickerson in CF, and Hogan Denny in RF. Brenzewski is the DH.

IU is the visiting team for this game.

T1st:

Taylor, Denny, and Cerny led off the inning. Taylor Kd on three pitches. Denny Kd looking. Cerny Kd looking and Lane threw almost all fastballs.

B1st:

Another single down the RF line loaded the bases with no outs. Denny got a glove on the ball but he couldn't hang on which forced the runners to hold up.

A GS homer to RF gave UNLV a quick 4-0 lead as IU dug themselves into an early hole. Seebold got the next hitter for the first out. A double put a runner on 2nd with one out. A flyout got the 2nd out with the runner holding at 2nd. A K ended the inning.

I just got home and pulled it up, saw the score and then looked at the plays. We start the game off by striking out 1-2-3 and they get 3 hits and a HR, first 4 batters. There isn't much of worst start to the season than that.

And how the hell is Pyne batting last? He hasn't done that in his first 3 years.

T5th:

It was the top of the order up for IU and Taylor reached on a single. Denny popped up on the infield for the first out.

Cerny was hit by a pitch to put runners on 1st and 2nd with one out. Oliver hit into a DP to retire the side after UNLV went to the bullpen and brought in RHP Will Marquart.

B5th:

IU went to the bullpen and brought in LHP Drew Buhr and Buhr put them down in order to end the inning.

Dickerson was thrown out at 3rd after a pickoff attempt by the pitcher which was the 2nd out with Stadler scoring on the play. Hanley singled to put a runner on with Wiggins pinch hitting for Pyne and he grounded out to retire the side.

Buhr faced the 4 thru 6 hitters. The leadoff hitter flied out and then Buhr gave up a single to put a man on. Another flyout resulted in the 2nd out with the runner holding at 1st. The runner stole 2nd, but a groundout ended the inning. IU was slowly chipping away at the lead.

Pretty unimpressed so far losing to a team that was 6th of 7 in mountain west. Offensively similar very few competitive at bats

It's the 4 thru 6 hitters up with Oliver leading off. IU went down in order and they are at their last three outs.

B8th:

Buhr was back out there to face the 2 thru 4 hitters and he Kd the leadoff hitter. He then gave up a single to put a runner on. Buhr then got another K for two outs and a flyout ended the inning.

IU outhit UNLV 9 to 7, but the shaky 1st inning was the killer with the GS, with IU shutting them out the rest of the way. Once Seebold settled down after the 1st, he was pretty effective, and Buhr in middle relief was great. Our team is supposed to be a strong hitting team, but it didn't show in this game, and we couldn't piece much together for a rally.

It's just the first game so hopefully our hitting comes around tomorrow in our game with Xavier.

Hate to lose this one but glad to see Gavin Seebold settle down and pitch well after the rough start. Again the ol' Strikeout bugaboo bit us in the buttocks (11K's iirc). The Boys had their chances tonight. Let's hope we can turn this thing around tomorrow!
Go Hoosiers!

I don’t like Pyne hitting in the 9 hole and getting ph for. He’s a four year guy and being touted as the leader. Mercers MO is to get freshman in and playing, but I don’t like it at the expense of veteran/proven guys.
Bad loss, but turn the page. It’s early.
