Going back to the late 80s when I worked for the IRS it was policy to tell people to report illegal income. I heard stories that this was frequent as pretty much everyone knows the "that's how they got Capone" story. But I can't find details on how much comes in overall.

Now, they have gotten the IRS to reveal illegal aliens. The IRS will lose income from all undocumented aliens in the future. But they also will lose if from thieves, drug dealers, gun runners, bookies, etc. They now know the government isn't bashful about getting that data to use against them. I don't know how much it will add up to, but it wouldn't surprise me if it is close to what DOGE is "saving". According to the second article below, in 2022 undocumented aliens paid $59.4 billion to the federal government and $37.3 billion to state and local governments. Obviously, Americans with illegal income would add to that.

When they score the Republican budget, they will over score savings from DOGE and won't remove this income. And then we will all wonder why the deficit is worse than expected.

How do you know they won't remove the income?

They are politicians wanting something else. The tax cuts become a LOT harder the more other income one removes as the cuts aren't near as deep as were promised.
Sounds to me like it's something that MIGHT happen. If they try to do that, report back.
