Our former all-world QB recruit that clearly hasn't yet grasped the novel concept of "honoring your word," didn't even make all-state in his 5A class...nor honorable mention for that matter. When they name 3 or 4 players per class in a 6-class state, it only seems to reason a big time recruit would be expected to make one of the slots, right?

I guess the "thanks for coming" prize is he actually did make all state as a DB in his class.

Weird.

Somebody needs polish up their recruit evaluation skills.

My guess would be the staff of Rivals & Scout.

Penn State recently took another 4* QB commit

Stevens was all amped up about the 100K fans who show up at beaver stadium. Just think, 100K fans cheering you on while you hold a clipboard as a 4th string QB. But, maybe he can run the scout team. Perhaps see the field in mop up duty once or twice in his career. Nice.

Yes .... and No

Unlike IU, most other programs and fanbases understand the need to have a "team" - including a QB team.

Here, even in Pee Wee football, junior high, barber shop leagues, and especially HS, the "start or quit" mentality prevails.

Nobody respects the concept of how important the backup QB's are to a football team.

People happily support the backup RB, OL, etc.
But we demean the backup QB as if they are meaningless.
Its no wonder they transfer.
They're conditioned to it.

And his parents will enjoy the 1,000 mile roundtrip drive to State College

to watch him stand on the sidelines on Saturdays

Re: Yes .... and No

I think at most levels more times than not the backup is highly thought of, especially w a struggling starter, until the backup plays and fans realize the backup is that for a reason.

Re: Yes .... and No

Hey more power to him, running the scout team over the next several years, and simulating guys like JT Barrett and Chad Kelly to help the PSU defense prepare for its opponents. You are right, that's an important role for a team guy. Every team needs a good scout QB and I am sure he'll do a great job. All of the best to him and hopefully this is everything he's ever dreamed of.

Plus the complete inability of IU to score even one offensive TD against

PSU didn't help....nor did IU's collapse down the stretch offensively.

Don't blame the kid - who was initially enthusiastic about coming to IU - blame IU's offensive "genius" coaches....

And sorry - injuries are part of the game- so let's not hear that excuse anymore, please.

The offensive problems were personnel and not "coaching" issues. The coaches are responsible for personnel of course, but that doesn't call into question their knowledge of the game or ability to coach.

And look how much progress the 5th string QB made in the last 6 games. I bet his decommitment had more to do with whether CKW would be back for another year. Most likely stoked by comments from people like you on the boards like this.

If he is who we thought he was...he is planning on winning the job at some point...

Also blame the atmosphere of the stadiums as well

he talked about how great it was to play in front of 100,000 people at PSu and if he came to IU he would be playing in front of around 30,000 people.

That's bull and you know it

No team is playing their 5th string guy and winning or putting up consistent offensive numbers! If you are Tommy wouldn't you look and realize that this team could use me? If your goal us to get on the field in bigtime college football than common sense and CKW past success should've played into the equation!

You continuing to sarcastically put "genius" in quotes...

doesn't make them stupid.

Re: Plus the complete inability of IU to score even one offensive TD against

What a load of crap, so you are trying to say the kid decommitted due to our offensive woes down the stretch, so he then committed to the offensive juggernaut that is PSU, LOL ! The kid (and father apparently) got caught up in the bright lights and 100,000 fans of PSU, period. Remains to be seen how this turns out for the kid, but I suspect he will never QB at PSU. They are already recruiting over him and he wasn't their "guy" to begin with, so that should have told him something.

Oh yeah, the PSU Offense was SO effective

against the IU Defense. Not O$U Defense. Not Iowa. Not Wisconsin. Indiana.

If team performance is what you think drove his decision, you're wrong.

If he's to be the 4th string QB at Penn St then why in the world

would we want him? Let's say he did become our starting QB in a few years. Then we would have failed at recruiting, that is, we had to settle for him because we were unable to land better QBs.

PSU's other QB recruit is in the 2016 class.

Check your facts. It is not rocket science. Stevens will be one of three scholarship QBs this year. The PSU offense will get better. They only had 5 scholarship OL in spring practice. PSU is moving on while IU is going nowhere in football. PSU also has stud receivers lined up. 3, 4 stars in this class and 3 in the last class.
