The UK election next month might offer an interesting contrast to current American politics. While Americans have become much more partisan in recent years, Brits have become less tied to parties, driven by things like Scottish independence and Brexit. Britons are much more likely to identify as Remain or Leave than they are with a particular party, and seem quite willing to cross party lines in order to defend their stance on Brexit.

The Lib Dems, Greens, and Plaid Cymru have decided to try to take advantage of this by forming an electoral pact in 60 districts across England and Wales, where they hope a single candidate might be able to defeat a pro-Brexit Tory, but will also compete against candidates from Labour, currently seen by many Remainers as just another Brexit party. Meanwhile, SNP will almost certainly give Labour trouble in Scotland (where Sturgeon has already said that a new independence referendum would be an absolutely requirement for any sort of coalition with SNP should there be another hung Parliament).

All of this adds up to an election that many are calling unpredictable. Should be fun to watch.
