U. Evansville offers 8th Grader

Jaylan Mitchell. Already 6’7”, he plays guard.

He’s headed to Khristian Lander and Dru Smith’s alma mater Reitz next year.

Something tells me this kid isn’t destined to be a Purple Ace. He’s a name to put on the radar for Class of ‘27.

He moved to EVV recently from Olney, IL. Illini haven’t offered, but are well aware of him.

I think Yogi and Matt Carlino were both rated as the #1 8th Grader in the nation. Lol at the latter. We dodged a big bullet with his daddy.

Yeah, I think that's a bit early to be rating players -- or, at least, putting much value on those ratings.

Kids mature at different levels and those differences are more pronounced around that age than any other. I'm not saying this kid won't end up being the real deal -- he may. But I'm sure it's not unusual for kids to get a lot of attention and then end up to be nothing spectacular.

But it's worth knowing -- we could be hearing his name a lot in the next 5 years.

Might have been both, but definitely Yogi. At one point he was arguing with his little brother and his final retort was "Google me" and Sr. heard it and shut down his AAU play over it.

Every kid is different. Hope this particular kid has a strong support group, and uses this as positive motivation. Obviously, these early offers and the notoriety that comes with them, can really mess with kids...and the people around them.
