Tough coaching choice. One guy flounders on offense & his replacement walks on defense and doesn’t guard.

No, but other than the 2 bigs down low, nobody looks particularly good on such a poorly coached team. They don't seem to communicate well on defense and other than passing the ball inside, the offense is less than impressive.
Sadly, he's fitting right in.
He sure is and fitting right in with our typical horrific guard play. The defense is lost and definitely do not communicate. Ballo is trying hard, but often does not switch. MM is a lazy defender. Team has obvious talent, but I think their effort overall is about 75/80% and it attributes to the horrible defense. Dudes are wide open for threes all night long and it’s primarily due to the lack in communication and not switching.

They also get burned too much on the backdoor where no IU player is within 5ft of the player receiving the pass and slam dunking it.

Yeah several times it looked like we’ve never addressed how to defend the high screen/roll around the FT line. Hedge, switch… do something please….running into each other and then looking confused isn’t working.
My favorite is slowly trailing the fast break of the opponent, getting to the half court line while your man is slamming the f*** out of the ball hard enough to shake the backboard.

I'm not sure Ballo is supposed to switch all that much. They can't switch him onto very many wings.

Not saying he doesn't have problems, but I don't think we switch every screen with the 5. It's the other defenders job to get over and recover. And we often dont.

I agree and should have been more specific. I was referring to one particular play in the Miami game where MM got stuck on a pick in the middle of the lane and Ballo just stuck to his man while Mm’s guy got behind them for an easy dunk. It’s very often guys in the middle are wide open for a dunk vs our defense.

Pete Carrill would have a field day against the Hoosiers.
I almost posted that exact thing last night. IU is not a cohesive defensive bunch ... and I think the roster lacks basketball IQ. Carril's Princeton squads would have back-doored the Hoosiers to death.

In the past 5 games, he is 6-26 on field goals for a 23% average. He has 5 assists to 6 turnovers. I would say last night is more in line with the player he is. He may have flashes of good, but what we saw last night is more the norm than the exception.

Last year, Mgbako shot 32% in his first 5 games and was clueless on D. Later he had a 5 game stretch where he shot 30% on 63 shots. Takes time for players to adjust. Tucker is adjusting just Mgbako did last year.

yes. And a good one. He has a lot of ability, he's just making some mistakes and judgments that an older player wouldn't. He will be solid in time.

Looked like he was pissed off about something the other night. Something more/different than his poor play.

When you say he "has a lot of ability", I think 'to do what?". From what I see he is a very good mid-range jump shooter, which, by the nature of today's game, is less valuable than being a very good 3 point shooter or a great finisher at the rim. He has a fondness for contested, one-on-one turn-around jump shots.

He has shown no ability to hit an open 3, or take the ball to the rim. He is totally lost on team D. And because he's so thin, he is at best an average rebounder. Even so, if he would not take forced , contested jumpers he would get PT on this team. As it is, he's going to begin getting less time unless he gets it together.

Good post. I posted somewhere else that something was going on with him during the Miami game. At one point he went into the hallway towards the locker room. They shut the double doors and when he returned, he eventually went back on court, started playing hard and got a few shots up. So wierd.
