Trump Tariffs

I think it was a fad. Several really good ones were bought up years by the big guys. Hopefully the ones that actually do make great beer can hang around.

Half joking, once they all started making hazy IPAs and not much else, I lost interest. I hate those.
I hate those too

Seeing some places are breaking seals on bottles at POS. Big uproar.
Before the holidays my older neighbor was bragging about a couple bottles his collector nephew found. I said, well it looks like you will have some fantastic tastes over the holidays. He sheepishly says, actually no. He won’t open them. He wants to sell them in the secondary market.

Assholes.

I just hope those asshole “collectors” lose it all. They have ruined bourbon for people who actually drink bourbon
I think this has been in the early stages for the past year or so. But I could be wrong about that.

A lot of the demand has come from China. Same goes for premium wines, brandies, Scotch, cigars, etc. I was at the duty free in Heathrow recently, and was floored by their prices for Cuban cigars. I think the cheapest box they had was around 700£.

A guy who's plugged in to that world told me it's mostly the Chinese driving this.

Can’t read the article. But I don’t see a Blink. What is it? @Bowlmania posted a misunderstanding of what Trump said about canada. And he missed half the Canadian agreement. Did the WSJ do likewise? The Canadian -American bank problem is still on the table. Not sure about the dairy problem. Mexico has just started, more to come there too.
Are you talking about my post 422? I didn't characterize anything Trump said, or quote him at all, in that post. What is your problem?

I said Trump caved. I stand by that.

Fentanyl is a totally different beast than any drug the world has dealt with. The components aren’t illegal and it takes very little of it. China supplies the raw materials that can be sent in very small containers. The combining of the components is easy(from my understanding) and is done in a kitchen apartment anywhere and everywhere. Instead multiple sweat shops etc..or a meth lab it’s done with basic chemistry lab kits. They even train the people how. This is why it’s going to be damn near impossible to stop. The key is stopping one of the components.

So reading and listening to different experts on the tariff stuff. The ultimate goal is to do a 1-1 currency with Canada. Not making them a state but an even closer financial and security partner. No more passports and a real united boarder. the real goal is banks of each country use a digital “backed currency”. Canadians are tired of the left policies and tired rhetoric of the current administration. They are ready for major changes.

Yes.

MAGA's spin on yesterday's developments as some massive win for Trump is laughable.

Canada had offered the $1.3 billion border strengthening program two months ago. Their agreement to appoint a fentanyl czar is hardly a huge political loss, and the "czar" won't be particularly busy as the amount of fentanyl coming into the US from Canada is de minimis.

Mexico agreed to move 10,000 troops to the border. This is not a first. They did the same, at the request of old Joe, in April of 2021, and at other times before and since.

Here's what happened yesterday. Trump caved on the Mexico and Canada tariffs as a result of blowback from all quarters, and because the looming tariffs were causing the markets to tank. His not-very-big deals yesterday were a face-saving measure.
If the threat of tariffs were just that, a threat, then anything gained from their use can hardly be called “blinking”.

Besides, all of this is going toward strengthening the border, which is what he was elected to do.

Take a victory lap if you’d like, I guess.

"Blinked" wasn't my word. I prefer "caved."

lol. An effective treatment plan will be confinement with no access to drugs.

Libertarians don’t always make sense.

It makes good sense for the government to interdict drug traffic making drugs less available and more expensive.

We gotta cut down on access.
Agree on access but there is treatment. Suboxone and therapy. Can treat from your couch with teletherapy. And a boatload of money flooding the market for it

Neither Canada nor Mexico made any "concessions" outside of agreeing to follow up on proposals that they have already agreed to, with very minor tweaks like appointing a "czar"to oversee progress on fulfilling the previously-promised obligations.

Canada/Mexico: "End these tariffs and we'll make sure that the sun rises tomorrow".

Trump: "Yay, I win. We'll get sun! I am awesome."

There isn't a bourbon lover alive who would let a jury convict you of assault by nut punch if you took matters into your own hands.

I've heard rumors that bourbon prices will be dropping and that the allocated bottles will become more easily obtainable. Haven't seen either yet in Ohio.

Me neither. I will say, bourbon is between 10-20% cheaper here in California. Scotch is cheaper in Indiana. I need to start a liquor running business.

The Canadian offer/commitment came after Trumps election and after he started in on his tariff threat. In addition to the czar, Canada agreed to joint international enforcement.

Mexico now agreed to a permanent deployment. But I don’t think we can know what permanent means. It’s also my understanding Mexico agreed to enforce its southern border.

In both cases, tariffs remain a threat.
