Seems unconstitutional to me. Like using prisoners to do contract work.

The 21st Amendment gives the states carte blanch when it comes to anything alcohol related.

There's a disconnect between the writer of the headline and what the article actually says. Oil and gas are hardly "exempt for now". The 10% tariff on Canadian energy will have significant effects.

The 10% tariff on Canadian energy is a major development for an industry that almost unilaterally sells crude oil to the U.S. Canada Energy Regulator reported that in 2023 it sent about 97% of all its crude oil exports to the United States.

For U.S. refineries that are specifically tuned to Canadian oil, any costs associated with switching imports could lead to more expensive gas prices at the pump.

if they don't switch suppliers and pay the tariff, they are not paying that 10% out of the goodness of their hearts. It comes out of our skin.

While Canada may send us 97% of all their crude exports but it got me wondering, how much is that as a percentage of what we import and what is it used for?

A quick google search along those lines say we import about 67% of our crude from Canada (60%) and Mexico (7%). That being said, only about 25% of that crude imported from Canada and Mexico is turned into fossil fuels. So to what degree does that affect us at the pump and elsewhere I dunno, but it's certainly not at the level many of the stories/reports would imply.

Yep as expected. The fear mongering in the media was as usual for nothing. Probably why most people ignore them now.

The article mentioned that Canadian crude oil (for whatever reason) is often converted to motor oil and so the cost for an oil change is likely to go up a lot, and very quickly

Reports I'm seeing state that the troop commitments had already been made some time ago, by both Canada and Mexico.
