Where does it say that Vijay got a scholarship?Dont forget Vijay was ofered a scholarship, so he will no doubt be counted on to contribute at a high level.
Vijay may be a better shooter than some of the "returning 3".Where does it say that Vijay got a scholarship?
Supposedly, Archie offered him a while back in a return to the team.Where does it say that Vijay got a scholarship?
I reviewed that entire thread. NOONE mentioned in any post that Blackmon was getting/offered a scholarship. You just make things up. Oh, and you posted several times on that particular thread.Supposedly, Archie offered him a while back in a return to the team.
There was a whole thread about it.
Good to know. Thanks.I reviewed that entire thread. NOONE mentioned in any post that Blackmon was getting/offered a scholarship. You just make things up. Oh, and you posted several times on that particular thread.

I wouldn't be surprised if he was awarded a scholarship the week school begins if we still have 2 open spots. Archie could leave both open in case a mid season transfer becomes available.I reviewed that entire thread. NOONE mentioned in any post that Blackmon was getting/offered a scholarship. Sports Guy on Marion radio this morning (5/16) said Vijay Blackmon told Coach Miller he was leaving I.U. and was told that he was expected to play this coming year. So now he's staying and looking for time in the rotation, off the bench.I reviewed that entire thread. NOONE mentioned in any post that Blackmon was getting/offered a scholarship. If Smith is relied on to be anything more than a guy that eats up a few minutes off the bench at the 3 spot, then it's going to be a rough year. He's literally shown nothing resembling a winning player at this level. Hopefully Hunter is ready to go when BIG10 season rolls around. Now all 3 need to improve their shooting.
Smith may need to revamp his shooting mechanics with a shot doctor. He needs to shoot better than 40% to 50% FT, and work on strong post moves and strong hands with the ball. He needs to play D, Rebound, Block shots, get put backs and dunks. The Dennis Rodman role.

If Hunter is healthy, Smith should not start. I look for Damezi to regain his confifence, he provides more scoring potential than Smith, as do any of the guards in a 3 guard lineup. If Smith is relied on to be anything more than a guy that eats up a few minutes off the bench at the 3 spot, then it's going to be a rough year. I disagree. Smith played well the second half of his freshman year. It was as though he came back from Christmas break with a second wind or some new motivation. The OSU game was very good that year and he looked like OG had come back. He had a game or two at most this year where he had similar energy and focus. If Smith is relied on to be anything more than a guy that eats up a few minutes off the bench at the 3 spot, then it's going to be a rough year. He played like something or someone was bothering him this year. There was the critical tweet from his dad that could have been an underlying frustration or possibly he was dealing with a family giving too much advice. Maybe it was simply other team issues that have moved on.
Smith is a smart kid despite what people have said about his low IQ play. He will have competition this year. He came back so he must like who is here and what he can do for the team.
I've seen enough of Smith soo far, maybe he'll improve and I hope he does, because clearly Archie is going to play him no matter what. My problem with Smith has nothing to do with his smarts as a student, his basketball IQ.I disagree. Smith played well the second half of his freshman year. They stem from his consistent lack of effort on the court, cussing out his teammates during games, not to mention his daddy's cryptic tweets that helped send the entire team into a tailspin mid season.
If he was a better player then I could live with some of it, that being said he simply isn't good enough to warrant all of that.
I fear Poppa Smith could be a controller, meddler, and a potential team chemistry disrupter. Helicopter dads got a ego boost watching the Lavar Ball show at UCLA, and now these overbearing daddies who view their son as their golden ticket, suddenly control every aspect of their son's burgeoning career. And with the shift away from scholastic sports teams (traditional High School and traditional College teams) it will be possible in a couple years to have a handful of elite players never play on a traditional scholastic sports team. AAU (all about contacts and father's influence can be heavy), to Prep HS (Oak Hill, LaLu, IMF, Sierra Canyon, Huntington Prep, Monteverde Academy etc) where again father can help choose and direct his path, and then declare straight for the NBA Draft. Helicopter Dads are becoming more plentiful and more influential as they attempt to "guide" their son's path to NBA riche$. And they all think their son is NBA material if they can jump high, or run fast. Skipping scholastic sports teams is going to become a detriment to the development of basketball fundamentals, unselfish team play, and skills development of the future USA elite players. Super talented kids with lower BB IQ, possessing a under-developed overall team game than in the past.I've seen enough of Smith soo far, maybe he'll improve and I hope he does, because clearly Archie is going to play him no matter what. Agreed, he needs to get better at the game, but I think Archie can change his role to more of a Troy Williams type of player now that he is not needed in the front court. From the wing, he could cut behind the defense, crash boards, and maybe one day learn to put it on the floor in isolation. I have no hope in his shot.Smith is athletic, but unskilled.
Unless Smith improves his shooting, FT shooting, ballhandling, decision making, rebounding, and defense, then he should not start if the rest of the IU roster is healthy. Even Hanner was a better FT shooter.
Why do you say Archie will play him no matter what? What healthy player was better than Smith this year? Forrester? Moore? Fitzner? Anderson?I've seen enough of Smith soo far, maybe he'll improve and I hope he does, because clearly Archie is going to play him no matter what. You watched games last year and believe Thompson will challenge Smith for PT?Why do you say Archie will play him no matter what? What healthy player was better than Smith this year? Forrester? Moore? Fitzner? Anderson?
Smith had one of his best games late in the season when he came off the bench. It would not surprise me if that is how Smith will be used. We have TJD and hopefully a healthy Thompson and Hunter. Smith will have to earn playing time this year.
Luckily, I don't share your view of a tailspin. I don't expect another season where we lose 12 out of 13 games or have the number of injuries we had this year. I don't see the break out year we could have had with another quality player or two. We can still make the NCAA tournament. We will need a very good 2020 class. Why wouldn't he? He played poorly most of the year and still got significant minutes. Wouldn't that make you think if I just improve a little, I'll get more PT? If Hunter were to come back with a full recovery, I could manage to muster some hope for this season (Hunter starting, healthy DD, TJD coming in, RP, DG and AD improving and shooting better). But without that, I fear we'll still be in the tailspin that was last season.
Not NBA material. Is their ‘feedback’ simply that they weren’t offered invitations by any NBA clubs to check them out?
Will Smith challenge any healthy front line player for starting PT? The healthy guys he beat out Fitzner, McRoberts, Moore, Forrester, are gone. You watched games last year and believe Thompson will challenge Smith for PT?
I would be disappointed if TJD didn't start at the 4 and Davis at the 5. I believe Archie would use a 3 guard lineup before he would start with Smith at the 3. IDK what Archie has in mind for Smith. Someone that can shoot and handle the ball will get a chance at the 3. Smith would have a lot to work on.Will Smith challenge any healthy front line player for starting PT? Its sort of like we are starting the bb season off with 6 players out for the season with injuries...compared to last year anyway...Luckily, I don't share your view of a tailspin.
