Trey Galloway “wanted to be first” to start recruiting for Indiana Basketball

Trey sounds like someone who wants to be here! The other guy not so much!

Not the kids fault they aren't head over heels to come to IU. IU basketball has been a disgrace all their lives. We had 9 years of Crean, or over half of the time they have been alive. Shit, after 8 years old all they know is Crean and these last 2 shit seasons. Hard to say ya Archie has this thing turned around.

Can you imagine only knowing Crean ball for IU? This program better win this year, I am sick of this shit.

While I agree on some things about Crean, he did have a few good seasons at IU. It's kind of odd. Crean was all offense, no D. So far Miller has been defense. Galloway looks like a good recruit so maybe the offense will return.

Louisville seems to have made a good adjustment to their new coach!

About Coach Chris Mack:
"He is married to the former Christi Hester, a Louisville native and former University of Dayton guard (1996–2000).[6] They have three children and resided in Northern Kentucky before he took the Louisville position. In 2017, he earned an honorary degree from Arizona State after beating Arizona in the NCAA tournament.[3]"

Ex-Xavier coaches generally have proven themselves. And he was a natural hire for Louisville because of his wife, in part, and their Northern Kentucky residence.

Mack was a good hire by Louisville after the morally corrupt Pitino. Louisville has a huge mess to clean up.

The part of Northern Kentucky they lived in was across the river from Cincinnati.

I know. Those three counties: Boone, Kenton, and Campbell are known as Northern Kentucky. And if you get on a rooftop of a Northern Kentucky University building you can see the downtown skyline 6 miles away as the crow flies.

Nice area. Just wasn’t sure what it had to do with him taking the Louisville job.

Same tax situation? :) It was Christi Mack, really, and the prestige of the new job (and the $$$).

Absolutely. Louisville is paying Mack almost 4x what he was making at Xavier and it was a move that his wife pushed for. I'm not sure if the family relocated, but depending on where they lived Kentucky it's at times less than an hour drive into Louisville. I used to travel to the Cincy/Northern KY area for work almost weekly and the traffic crossing the river at times was brutal.

I’ll tell you this, if Illinois and Underwood make the tourney this year and we don’t..... I’ll burn it down.

They got everyone back and also picked up a talented post player to fill the gap.

IU lost a lot. It is hard to say if they will rebound from last year's troubles but there are more questions for IU heading into this season.

That isn't to say IU shouldn't or can't beat Illinois, but there are reasons for lllini fans to be hopeful.

Return a lot, but outside a 2 week stretch late in the year Illinois was awful. They will score points on teams this year no doubt but until Underwood finds a defensive identity they will continue to struggle. They play such at such a helter-skelter pace that results in a lot easy buckets and foul problems for their players, especially their bigs.

Louisville seems to have made a good adjustment to their new coach!

Mack took over a team with 5 Top 75 players, none of which were frosh. The Cards were tied with Tennessee and a couple others as the most experienced teams in the power 6 conferences (according to sports-reference experience ratings). I had UofL #8 in my ratings entering last season due to the wealth of talent and experience. King was a bust, which probably hurt their chances at reaching potential. It was not the amazing over-achievement that most make it out to be imo.

Anyway, Mack took over a loaded squad on paper. I like him, but it was a great situation sans the scandal issues off the court.

Don't forget Mack was able to sign a few grad transfers including Christen Cunningham at PG who was crucial to his teams success. Miller didn't have any flexibility with his roster and took all 3 of Crean's commits (while losing the 3 best players from the year before) and was stuck with Josh Newkirk who as a 23 year old 5th year senior was significantly outplayed by his true freshman replacement the following year.

IU absolutely has to make the tourney this year, no more "but injuries" or "but we lost Romeo". IU has a solid frontcourt with some guards that should improve. Nobody is asking them to win the conference yet, but another tourney miss and It'll be time to make some changes.

They have enough talent to make the tournament in a down Big10. Archie won't get fired either way, but his seat will be hot, making it even harder to turn it around on the recruiting trail.

If IU improves throughout the season I see IU making the NCAA Tournament. Archie's defense will keep IU in games, finding enough offense, and cutting down on turnovers to win close games will be the key

Attempting more free throws than the opposition, and making them, also.

Archie has actually been no offense, no defense.

UofL lost 4 starters from the year (17-18) before. Adel, Spalding, Snyder, and Mohmoud. Not to mention 2017-18 was a mediocre year with Padgett as interim coach. UofL was far from loaded last year. Mack patched holes with grad transfers and got the most out of what he had. UofL had a better year than IU. And they had plenty of challenges/questions going into the season as well.

I am not a Miller apologist nor do I bash him. I just stick to the facts. Last year was a tough year for many reasons. I hope this upcoming year is better. I am not very optimistic at this point but look forward to Miller coaching them up and hopefully everyone is healthy. I am glad Miller got Galloway. He should be a good 4 year player.

There's no need to put down Mack's performance last year to try to put a shine on IU's turd of a season. Mack did a great job last year and Archie struggled.

IU will hopefully turn it around this year or we won't, but there's no reason to make excuses for it, it's a big year for IU.

I agree that Mack did a great job with Louisville last year. I really like him as a coach, and would probably swap if I could based on what we've seen so far. I'm just saying that few coaches have ever walked into a situation with that much talent and almost no expectations in year 1.

Mike Davis inherited a roster with 4 Top 75 players and, even though there was plenty of turmoil surrounding the program, I don't think the expectations were anywhere near as low as at UofL coming into last season. Davis managed a #4 seed, whereas Mack got a #7 seed. Davis reached the Title game in year two whereas Mack is ranked Top 5 preseason.

I'm not saying that Mack is another Davis, I'm just saying they walked into similar situations.

I should have also added that 8 of Davis' 11 first year players were frosh and soph's whereas Mack had one of the most experienced teams in major college hoops.

Except that Coach Chris Mack walked in having established winning credentials from coaching at Xavier, which gave him a leg up with players not transferring out/recruiting.

Illinois had almost nothing in the front court last year except a freshman. This season will be a better measure of Underwood as a coach.
