Based on my quick very little research I believe these are our numbers based on current roster and after our freshman sign

DB-We will be down 1 (Lose 5 gain 4)
DL- We will be up 1 (Lose 4 gain 5)
K- Down 1 (Lose 1)
LB- Up 1 (Lose 1 gain 2)
OL- Even (Lose 3 gain 3)
P- Down 1 (Lose 1)
QB- Down 1 (Lose 1)
RB- Down 2 (Lose 3 gain 2)
TE- Down 1 (Lose 3 gain 2)
WR- Down 2 (Lose 5 gain 3)

Where will be biggest need areas do you think?

I would think RB and WR are top priority. What's next? DL? OL? Punter? Anyone have an opinion?

I think I would list like this.

1) A) RB

1) B) WR

3) DL

4) OL

5) DB

6) TE

7) P

8) LB

9) QB

10) K

Indiana hopefully is in line with any of the other big boy's.
And the staff does its do diligence and we get the best of the best..Or one's you want to fit your style and game plan.
Cig made a comment in an interview that he already knows a bit about a lot of guys in the portal because he recruited them/researched them when they were in high school.

From what I saw earlier, looks like a LOT of IVY league guys, especially from Harvard, are in the portal so far. They have a receiver, Cooper Barkate, that has 3 years of good production. Honestly hoping they're taking a look at him. Has a Surrat feel to him. Good hands and finds the holes in the zone. Was #412 overall recruit in 2022, so there's some level of pedigree there.

QB is always a big need. I think we have a solid QB room returning, but it'd be nice, obviously, to find a Rourke level passer.

Offensive and defensive line. I'll say this until I'm blue in the face, spend your money on elite linemen. Develop the skill people. Turn Indiana in to offensive and defensive linemen U.

Everyone wants/needs lineman. Especially o line. Coaches have been saying it’s hard to get o lineman these days.

This is about as unresearched, and unscientific as it gets... But I think that nearly all coaches are looking for value when they're looking for linemen. I'm saying if your NIL budget is 20 million...start out with a budget of 12-14 just for the lines. No clue if that's our budget or not, but take those percentages and apply it to whatever the budget is. Throw 7 figures at a handful of impactful elite OL and DL.

Urban said it. Even Ryan Day. Go to the highschools. I know my son playing at castle all the kids want to play defense. My son is a tackle. It’s a very thankless and hard position to project and teach.

OL/DL have to be top priority. Assuming Smith, Lynch, and Evans all come back (Smith has NFL potential and Evans coming off a pretty significant injury) still need two starting caliber lineman. Outside Stephens who graduates, our 2's were all very young and without experience. Possible one makes a big jump, but depth is needed for sure. Defensive line is even a bigger issue. Good chance all four starters are gone as West, Carpenter, and Carr are out of eligibility and Kamara is likely going pro. Staff is very high on true freshman Mario Landino and Burris and Tucker were on the interior rotation this year but we need EDGE help bad.

RB will most likely be by committee next year. I wouldn't count out Black or Green being #1 and #2 next year. Black had more carriers than Lawton at JMU and Green had a lot of experience at UNC prior to transferring over. Need a slot WR and depth but Sarratt and Cooper is huge to whoever is under center next year.

I expect the staff to sign a veteran QB to push Jackson in the Spring and into Fall camp.

I know...which is why I'd go pay a premium for proven college linemen. Literally pay to turn Indiana in to OL and DL U. And we'll keep winning if we do that. Maybe more programs will take this approach...but it seems more likely that if Indiana is willing to "overpay" with respect to their own budget, for OL and DL players, it'll put them in the ball game with most of the big boys. We need 3-4 starter level players for BOTH lines, and then some depth as well. Per Meyers point, very difficult, and unlikely, to find them at this point at the HS levels. Go scour All Conference level offensive linemen, from across the country, and pay them to come be a part of the emerging superpower!!!

Man I’d say both. Everyone is after good lineman and we got very lucky to get those transfers. Then boastad getting them to jell. Plus being undersized. Just an amazing job all the way around.

With Indiana's rumored NIL resources AND Cignetti taking us to the playoffs, Indiana should be in great shape for pursuing NIL targets.

I'd love to get a stud QB, an abundance of linemen, the TE from Ball State, and skill position players. Gonna need a punter, too!

He mentioned blacks selfless transition to special teams. He really likes him.

Kidwell has the option of returning to the OL, doesn't he?

Great minds think alike. 😂
Pay that man his money!

Then go get a couple more starter level OL, and 3-4 starter level DL. THAT will ensure we're a solid bowl level team next year. Go fishing for other difference makers as well wherever else Cig feels the need to upgrade.

Seen Liberty 2-3x this year and I don't understand their hype or Chadwell's....not a fan of Salter at all either. Cannot throw the ball down the field. His passing #'s very pedestrian.
Haven't watched him much this year but he was a really good dual threat QB last year. Some thought he might jump to NFL.I'll trust Cig as he knows how to evaluate QBs. Rourke was not highly sought after and look how he turned out.

Betting there are 30 QB's in the Portal before it's done.

Will be very hard to replace Rourke. Would like to see how a double threat QB would have defense's scrambling against our system.

Maybe Biden could pardon our senior's last season. Do over!

I agree, but it was sure nice to see Trayven run for that TD the other night. He’s got a great arm, but his ability to make the reads is in question and is what separates him from a guy like Rourke. I love a dual threat QB and ultimately it’s what we need to make that leap forward. Unfortunately, Rourke not being mobile will hurt us in the playoffs this year.

Time to ditch the knee brace and start running.

I looked at the participation #s....do you think any of these guys can step up---OL A.Ajani (3); J. Greer (3); Cooper Jones (10); A. Leibfried (4);

DL--R. Harrison (5); Landino(10)-you mentioned him; D. Ndukwe(11); V. Sneed (3); A. Turvy (4)

DB doesn't look bad with Ponds; Bonds; Jo Jo Johnson; Jamier Johnson; Ferrell, Sharpe??

LB doesn't look bad at all with Fisher, I. Jones (coming on), Hardy (potential star). Just need depth. A kid named Jeff Utzinger played in 12 games. Will he be a player??

Obviously you want stars anywhere, but I'd say QB is biggest need, followed OL & DL; TE; TB; WR; LB; DB

At WR Charlie Becker played in 11 games, so he might get some PT. Need a couple guys for depth there. Basically same at TB with Black & Green (if he returns), TE would be a place for a star to step in as a starter, but you do have Bomba, Foley & West, who will all probably be ok as reserves.

Someone mentioned we might have 18 portal spots--If so I'd go 1 QB, 3 OL, 5 DL, 3 WRs, 2 TBs, 2 LBs, 2 DBs based on current roster.

With no limits on transfers anymore, you can't even be sure our own guys won't enter for more cash. Of course they will burn their bridges if they do, but... Tayven is eligible, other guys. Some will need paid a fair amount even if not starters yet. Otherwise they risk burning their big earning years. Or, may pull a 'get paid thru four games and if not the starter, leave and redshirt.

I have no idea why the NCAA eliminated the one small control they had on this shit.

For OL I love Ajani’s upside, was the backup RG as a true freshman. Fairly raw when it comes to playing football as he moved from Nigeria and didn’t start playing until high school. Probably still a year away though but he’s got the size, frame, and athleticism to be very good with the right coaching and development.

Landino and Ndukwe were JMU commits who followed Cig. Mentioned that the staff loved Landino and think he will get a crack in the rotation next year. Turvy is a walk-on who got some reps in some of the early blowout games.

Rolijah Hardy is going to end up being the steal of last years recruiting class (also the lowest rated kid). I expect him to be Walker’s replacement as early as next year. Just has an absolute nose for the football. Jones is a solid depth place who you can plug and play. Utzinger is a walk-on from Cathedral who played on some very good teams (started with Hudson Miller who started for Purdue in the Bucket Game who is also a walk-on). Primarily a special teams guy but did have a few MAC offers coming out of high school that I was pleasantly surprised he turned down to walk-on.
