Modern offenses win because they prioritize efficiency, emphasizing three-pointers, layups, and free throws...backed by analytics. Traditional offenses struggle, in part, due to reliance on post play, slower pace, and difficulty erasing deficits, making them less adaptable in the NCAA tournament.
The Big Ten, which has leaned heavily on traditional inside-out play, hasn’t produced a national champion since 2000. We've had nothing but a traditional offense for the last 8 years under Archie and Woody, and many fans are ready to move on. At the very least, I hope we hire someone who employs a hybrid approach.
